  1. Sad, but there is no hope for someone who thinks they’re in multiple online romances, with multi millionaires, who need their money…

  2. Inserteggpunshere on

Six fucking times she got fooled by celebrity romance scams on instagram, surely she would have figured it out after way less than that? can’t even feel bad that’s just ridiculous

  3. Infinite_Society7792 on

Mental illness is a cruel thing. Its hard to believe any sane person could fall victim to this particular type of fraud.

Look, I’m sorry that there are evil people that pray on the desperate and stupid – but at some point there needs to be some levels of personal responsibility for these types of scams, as at the end of the day whether it be regular bank scams or elaborate scams like this, any forms of reimbursement is just going to be paid for by you and me…

I was going to say “ha ha, what an idiot” until i read the “addicted to the attention” part. How lonely is this woman? She must have known, surely? She just liked indulging in the fantasy.

    > “Last year, another Ludwig impersonator defrauded her of more than £100,000, claiming he needed it to “catch” the original fraudster.”

This actually might be the most ridiculous bit

  7. PulsatingBalloonKnot on

    Lost the kids as well.

This isn’t a manageable addiction, or someone feeling a bit lonely. She’s properly tapped in the head with ongoing issues, an inability to safeguard, a lack of insight or refuses to engage with reality, and needs serious psychological intervention.

I struggle to find sympathy for people that fall for romance scams involving celebrities.

Unlesss you’re an 11/10 in every single way, including emotionally and financially, no Celebrity is going to look at you once, let alone twice.

You’ve just got to be completely delusional to think otherwise. I mean, this person put their kids out of their home for god’s sake, at no point did she think of her actions and their effect on her children.

I understand how scams work and that is easier to get scammed than one thinks, I understand why some people might have mental issues and can get scammed multiple times.

What I don’t understand is how those people manage to accumulate enough money to get scammed out of those eye watering amounts.

  10. I think at this point someone should be given financial power of attorney over her. Something is seriously wrong.

  11. People who fall for these at all are either monumentally stupid or incredibly vulnerable to the point they shpuldnt have unsupervised access to the internet. Six times? Theres no words.

Says she works for the NHS too but doesnt specify. The thought of this person being anyway involved in the healthcare system is terrifying

  12. ShootAndScore77 on

Genuine question – is this not a form of mental disability?

To be this susceptible to the same scam over and over again even when it’s blindingly obvious to anyone it’s a scam. She seems to unfortunately have the critical thinking skills of an 8 year old

  13. I think if a family member fell for that twice – I would like to think I would step in and take their socials off them or encourage them to restrict their profiles

  14. Early_Alternative211 on

With personal family experience of this – the money will be lost by this kind of person one way or another. If it’s not a romance scam, it is another kind of scam.

Scammers and predators can actually detect the naivety from the people they are talking to.

  15. Any_Tomorrow_Today on

Ok – she was dumb and stupid – but where were her friends and family in all of this ? Where were the safeguards from the banks preventing her transferring all this money to strangers ??

  16. gilbert_gibbon on

Egregious levels of victim blaming in these comments. *Clearly* there is something seriously wrong with her mental state.

It’s a shame we can’t find as much ire to direct at the criminals.

  17. derrenbrownisawizard on

Wow I have no idea who most of those ‘celebs’ are. Maybe I don’t fall for these scams because you never see scammers out there pretending to be Michaela Strachan or Katy Hill

  18. Seen someone have this happen to them with an Elon musk investment scam. You cannot convince them they are being scammed, they really think they are super secretly investing in some new project.

  19. Not_Enough_Pepperoni on

She’s a pro, at getting scammed. I shall nominate her for Guinness World Records.

  20. DisgruntledBudha on

Sometimes I feel like even the scammers must be surprised.

“Mate, I think she’s actually falling for it. No fucking way”

  21. AardvarkOk2420 on

Right so we hold police to a high standard, you expect them to be a certain way in a personal capacity, same with a judge or other types of civil servants.

It said she works for the NHS (not sure what capacity) but i wouldn’t want someone with this level of common sense to be looking after anything to do with my health, regardless of if its of low/high level importantance.

Accidentally swiping your hand past the fire and getting a small burn fair enough, you learn your lesson. But then turning back around, sitting by the fire and using the same hands as marshmallows is crazy work

  22. He told me “don’t believe everything you see on social media” .. the clues were kinda there..

  23. By the way, I’m Brad Pitt. I’ve lost my wallet. Can someone lend me $10000 to help me out till my new cards arrive. I promise to love you forever.

  24. Think about it. Why would a celebrity contact you?

They don’t know you and could have asked other people they know instead.

Why would Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt be interested in you?

  25. I worked in an office with someone who clicked on every phishing link that landed in her inbox. Our IT team had to clean up a mess every 2-3 weeks. No training could stop her doing it. I used to ask her things like, “but were you expecting an email from userVZX4@gmail?” Her answer was no, but she was curious what it was. Every time. It’s fascinating that these people exist and can’t seem to learn.

  26. beneath_the_knees on

How can someone of obvious low intelligence have access to so much money?

    I hate my life

  27. I have a friend who’s dad thought he was talking to Sandra Bullock for over 6 months. The scammer even made a Instagram profile which had 5k followers😂. They eventually got the phone off the dad to read the messages. He’d been texting her in the morning like morning beautiful and they’d been having long conversations etc 😂. The son was like Dad why would Sandra Bullock be interested in a random divorced man from Leicester. Fortunately it hadn’t got to money yet but he was being groomed ready for it.

  28. Change the headline to

“Gambling addict now homeless after spending £250k” or

“Drugs lead me to live on the streets after i lost custody of my kids, lost my home, and lost £250k”

I wonder if people will have a different attitude to the story?

    >I did wonder if I had gone too far, but I got addicted to spending this money – I have this attention from someone and I am liking this attention.”

The human brain is fragile. We are not all built the same. Some don’t have a support network around them.
