Came within about 10 yards of a brown bear juvenile in the back country of glacier. It was just rolling around right off the trail being a silly little bear. What was troubling was getting to the first camp site and immediately being told by other hikers that “oh yeah mama and her child are skulking around, we’re headed to the lake with everyone else…” lol next thing we’re at the water and mama and her kid are just walking the edge of the lake

  2. This map should also include the range of the polar bear with the man face from The Terror.

And people call Australian wildlife scary. I’d rather snakes and spiders than three bears at once.

  4. Uhhh this is pretty far off. I’m from Michigan and there are lots of bears MUCH further south than your line. Also there are definitely bears in Ohio….

Are brown bears the same as grizzly bears? Me and my dad debated this one before and I still don’t know who’s right

  6. Northern coast of NL often has polar bears as well, mainly during spring when they float down on ice.

  7. I saw a video today of what a typical Bear punch will do to your skull if it punches you at full force. It’s not good. Your body would be without a head. Its cubs would probably use your severed head as a soccer ball.

  8. There are definitely black bears in the southern part of Wisconsin. I don’t think they cover all of Wisconsin, but it’s definitely not just the small portion up north that this map suggests

  9. Vancouver Island has recently seen multiple grizzlies set up shop. Specifically, there was a sow and her two cubs living near Sayward just last year. They could become endemic within the next decade or two.

  10. There are black bears in a lot more of South Carolina than this shows. I have seen them crossing the road 100 miles from where this shows their range. They wander into neighborhoods at least 50 miles from where the map shows. They don’t seem to harm anyone, but they are there.

At one time it was much more densely populated than this and grizzly bears extended much further…

  12. Why are the northern territory great lakes a different blue than the rest of the water…

  13. Anyone who’s born in northern Manitoba or Nunavut pops out of the womb as a certified bad-ass.

We have bears in central South Carolina, that map should have a bit more colour for us

  15. There are bears all over CT. I’ve had them in my backyard a bunch of times and live well away from that line.

KY’s range is definitely much larger. It’s been within the last 10 years but there are even bears on the outskirts of Louisville. I saw 2 a few years ago near the Ohio River and KDFWR confirmed they were known when I notified them of the sightings. Southern KY has more now too. The population exploded for some reason since 2015.

Western NC and honestly I’ve lost track of how many black bears I’ve seen over the years. Pretty cute.

  18. Basically all of Connecticut can be shaded in now. Connecticut doesn’t allow any bear hunting at all and they’ve made a remarkable recovery. There was one even swimming in the river in New Haven a few years ago
