I just passed a Mercedes G Wagon with number plate wrmach a clear reference to the Wehrmacht, the Nazi era army. I checked with Vplates and it is not available. I tried to submit a complaint to VicRoads, got the stupid AI message. I removed the word Nazi and put pre world war 2 regime and it got submitted. So much question is Nazi or Idiot?

  1. I’m gonna say probably a bit of both. Tbh I’m surprised that it was allowed in the first place.

The type of person that assumes that everyone else are idiots and will never see through their clever ruse.

Could also mean WR (World Record) and Mach as in a unitless measurement of an object’s speed relative to the local speed of sound. It is named after Austrian physicist Ernst Mach. So the plate could be an abbreviation of “World Record Speed”

Though it doesn’t help on a German suv

  4. The problem with the form is indeed the word nazi, I had exactly the same issue reporting another Nazi recently. I’ve been seeing quite a few personalised numberplates with hh or 88 too on the road.

Maybe change to n@zi, or “referring to the government of the German Reich 1933-45” and see how you go.

  5. Poor Walter Macher going to lose his plates, because an unhinged weirdo reports number plates to VicRoads. I know who creeps me out more.

  6. Could it not also just mean War Machine? Like the recent movie, the marvel character or what I assume is probably a common online nickname?

  7. I think you’re reading too much into it. It’s not even a Merc that it’s registered to, so makes less sense.

If I saw this on the road my first thought would be War Machine, then a guy called WR Mach.

I don’t think whatever you think it is would ever cross my mind, then again I don’t’t really watch the History Channel or WW2 docos.

Am I the only one who thinks you are possibly over thinking this a little bit?

“A clear reference” how the heck would you know.

I’m all for not allowing things that are offensive but someone driving a JEEP not even a Mercedes with that registration I highly doubt has anything to do with the German army. I really hope this person doesn’t end up with their personalised plate cancelled because one person thinks this.

How are we getting to a point where some people’s goal in life is to find something someone or a business has done and then find some loose connection why it might be offensive to some people.

Just saw a beetle with the number plate MUMKH. As Hitler’s mum was Klara, this has to be a link to Hitler’s Mum, and therefore outrageous!

  11. The Wehrmacht is not generally the part of the third reich that antisemites are obsessed with. While it is a myth that the wermacht was just the apolitical army, they were not the ideological army that the SS, SA or Gestapo were. It is analogous to the IRGC and the Artesh – one is the army of the party ideology and the other is the professional state army.

It is possible that this plate is about the wermacht, but I think there are many more likely possibilities
