French forecaster Météo France has placed three departments in western France on amber alert for rivers in spate; Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, and Morbihan.
Météo-France warns that riverbanks could be damaged or submerged leading to possible electricity cuts, difficult road conditions for drivers, and disrupted train services.
They advise the public to stay away from riverbanks and bridges, but to remain on high ground and for those living in possible flood zones, to take refuge on upper floors if necessary. Drivers should never attempt to drive through flood water on roads, even if a road is only partially flooded.
Departments on amber alert in western France on Tuesday February 10th.
Instead, the public should stay at home and stay updated on weather forecasts. If flood waters rise, householders should never go down to the cellar, but should lift their belongings clear of the water (on chocks) and locate their emergency kit.
