Grim news aside, a whole lot of people are about to experience Castanet for the first time, and to answer the question, yes, it is legit.

A very sad day for our community.

Terrible news. Is Secondary school what I think of in US as Middle School, 6-8 grade?

This is such a tiny and isolated community, absolutely devastating and incomprehensible.

When I saw the initial notification for this story I took away that only the shooter had died. Fuck, this is awful. This is crass but in these situations why the fuck do you have to take innocent lives with you if you’re the assailant? Should just make sure these piece of garbage are forgotten because I suppose the most popular reason is wanting to be news famous.

It never gets easier. Each school shooting is such a tragedy.

I’m so sorry this has happened. I wonder if the shooter’s family are the two other victims at the second, possibly related site.

Reading between the lines it sounds like the shooter killed their parents before going off to the school
I just don’t understand how somebody can be so messed up in the head that the idea of this even comes to mind.

It’s a tiny school. Self inflicted suicide by suspect too.

Listening to the police press conference he just answered a question and sounds like there could be more deaths. Jesus Christ

For context, this is a small rural mining community of ~2400 in the north east of British Columbia. It is isolated and off the main highway. This is a huge impact on the community.

We are in Taylor BC, just outside of Fort Sr John and about 90 minutes from Tumbler. We got the alert in our phones at about 1:50 and I really thought the shooter would be arrested and that would be that. Then I heard sirens all afternoon rushing up the hill outside of town and presumably on their way to Tumbler. But I still thought it would not be this bad, it’s Canada for fucks sake! My wife told me 10 dead and at the high school, I’m a teacher who has been to that school and I just cannot wrap my mind around d this, I’m devastated and literally in tears! This is something I never thought would happen here, that is my ignorance! We — the whole area in Northern BC and probably all of Canada — will be working through this for a long time. I never thought I’d say this because to me it is trite but my thoughts and prayers to the whole town and to those affected directly by this!

Absolutely heartbroken by this. One of my favourite small towns with some of the nicest people and a neat little dinosaur museum.

reminds me of the day of the worst mass shootijg in Canadian history, in Nova Scotia, April 2020. This is devastating and the impacts will run deep, I hope this community and these families get so much support. So unfair and unbelievable

This is devastating to the surviving students and staff, the families of the poor victims, and the entire community. In a small community the high school is the heart and soul, and it’s students are the future. They may never get over a tragedy this large. My thoughts are with you Tumbler Ridge. I hope you’re able to somehow find peace someday.

Northern BC has problems with crime and addiction. It’s not discussed much but things get bleak near Prince George.
