    Has zero to do with who paid, or American steel, it’s about punishment and economic destruction. Canada is on the menu, like Carney said. A madman is at the doorstep and wants to come in

    What’s the deal with this bridge being so important to Donald Trump? Asking as someone who’s not up to speed.

  3. He’s doing it because the other bridge in Detroit (the Ambassador Bridge) is owned by a billionaire contributor who asked him to stop the bridge from opening.

    The child said publicly that he would only accept election results if he won- all you gotta do is convince him opening the bridge is his idea.

  5. Trump also endorsed the entire construction project in 2017. Now it’s suddenly a surprise…just like his administration endorsed the UK Chagos Islands deal and now it’s the most terrible deal ever…

  6. Canada paid for it. Michigan owns half of it. The US half was built using US steel and US union labour. Canada will split the toll revenue with Michigan after the cost has been recovered.

    Trump has no valid excuse for this action.

  7. There’s a bit more history in this area as well.

    I drove through many years ago and all the properties on the Windsor side of the bridge were boarded up. The houses were quite nice and I was baffled.  The neighbourhoods behind  we’re fine, but along the road, perfectly good houses just sitting vacant.

    The owners of Ambassador Bridge wanted to build a second span, due to demand, but the township stopped them from being able to demolish through the neighbourhood.

    I haven’t thought about this is years. The history of the Ambassador Bridge and the area is quite the read.

    Canada should threaten to close the Ambassador bridge if the new one isn’t allowed to open.

  9. >“I explained that Canada paid for the construction of the bridge … that the ownership is shared between the state of [Michigan](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/michigan) and the government of Canada, and that in the construction of the bridge, obviously there’s Canadian steel and Canadian workers, but also US steel, US workers that were involved,” he said. “This is a great example of cooperation between our countries.”

    IE…I explained to Trump that everything he said was wrong. {subtext and that he is an idiot}

    Carney has the patience of a saint.

  10. Every country in the world is watching Trump’s actions like this. What business wants is stability. They might prefer a right leaning government over a left leaning government, but if the left leaning government is more stable and predictable they will more often go with the left leaning government. That’s why you are seeing businesses pull out of the US; they might make less money, but they know the money if more secure elsewhere.

    The US has this November to stop the bleeding. If Trump has three more years without any cheques and balances it will be a generation before they recover.

  11. What an idiot. I’m going to Europe in a few months and I think I’m going to have to get a pin that says, “Trumps a Cunt”. This way I won’t have to answer questions about my support.

  12. The owners of the Ambassador Bridge are going to lose money when trucks are using the new bridge so they’ve gotten to Trump and he is trying to protect billionaires millions… after I suspect a small donation was given.
