      Hungary’s top opposition figure has warned that individuals linked to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s right‑wing government are preparing to release a recording showing him in an “intimate encounter” with a former partner, describing the alleged operation as a “Russian‑style” smear campaign.

      [Péter Magyar](https://tvpworld.com/89938142/orbns-rival-magyar-vows-to-realign-hungary-with-the-west), whose centre‑right Tisza Party is seen as posing the strongest challenge to Orbán’s nearly 16‑year rule ahead of the parliamentary election in April, said journalists had received a link on Tuesday showing a room under camera surveillance.  

      He added this was connected to plans to publish a “secretly recorded” and “possibly manipulated” video involving him and his then‑girlfriend. 

      “I suspect they are planning to release to the public a recording made with secret‑service tools and possibly manipulated, in which my then‑girlfriend and I can be seen during an intimate encounter,” Magyar wrote on X. 

      Magyar said the alleged operation appeared timed to coincide with Wednesday which will mark the second anniversary of an explosive interview he gave in February 2024.  

      During that interview with Hungarian independent media outlet Partizán, Magyar [accused Orbán’s officials of corruption](https://tvpworld.com/91526207/corruption-perceptions-index-hungary-joint-worst-in-the-eu) and of wielding smear campaigns to tear down political opponents. 

      “It seems that on the anniversary they will launch a Russian‑style campaign that was previously considered unimaginable,” he said. 

      # ‘A symbolic day for Fidesz’ 

      Referring to Orbán’s ruling Fidesz party, in power since 2010, Magyar said: “This is obviously a symbolic day for Fidesz as well, because it was then that their seemingly unshakeable power began to crumble.” 

      “They are preparing for it — not in the way normal people would, by facing up to it and apologizing, but with blackmail and threats.”

      The article doesn’t mention – and Magyar did – that the government would most likely do this to divert attention from a fresh scandal regarding [the Samsung battery factory in Göd releasing 500 times the allowed dosage of harmful chemicals into the air and soil, a fact that the government knew about, but tried to cover up](https://telex.hu/komplex/2026/02/09/szoltak-hogy-a-viktor-levette-a-vedelmet-a-gyarrol-rogan-antal-rakuldte-a-titkosszolgalatot-a-samsung-godi-gyarara).

      For those who dont know the former mayor of Győr was caught on tape snorting cocaine (illegal both in hungary and in Croatia where it happened) from a callgirls ass on a yacht and the secret videotape became a subject of blackmail which in fidesz court made him a victim. No, seriously he got monetary damages awarded and ran for re-election.

      Meaning the Fidesz plan will likely be manipulation of the tape to make it seem nonconsentual to establish a pattern that he is abusive with women (as they alleged with his ex-wife).
