See it’s NOT a religion thing.

Muslim Majority Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) has a lower rate than Hindu Majority South India and Northern Sri Lanka.

  2. The colour map is a bit deceptive, it makes it look like the difference between 48% and 52% is much bigger than between 48% and 38%, for example

    That explains the eyes

Edit to add: Its definitely not everyone, but glad someone’s seen the stare with eyes a little too close together or too far apart

South asia isn’t the only place in the world and nobody can change what has already happened, but its time to put incest in the past

Cousin marriage works out just fine sometimes, but it is less than ideal genetically if it’s repeated over time

  4. Northern and Eastern India had and still has a system called gotra System where you can’t marry within the same gotra or same clan but within sam caste in Hindus (Idk about Muslims but they tend to avoid cousin marriage at a limit)

Whereas in South India and Pakistan they kind of follow cousin marriage. In South India traditionally they didn’t get married outside of their village or river line of another village Ig .

So more there are more people who marry a cousin than people who don’t marry a cousin in Pakistan?? wtf??

  6. Are these first cousins only? 2nd cousin, 5th cousin…And do the various sources define “cousin” the same way or is there divergence?

It’s 1% in Brazil today but it used to be 16% (yes, first cousin) so this can definitely change.

So amongst South Indian Hindus, it’s common to marry cross cousins ( eg: children of brother and sister; not permissible for children of sisters/brothers). The Keralite me and and a classmate from Andhra Pradesh had an argument wheather your cross cousins can be called “cousins”. He couldn’t believe I see them similar to my siblings. For them, it’s conditioned to see them as probable bride/groom and never saw them as siblings, and he had a cultural shock over it lol.

  9. Yo Pakistan wtf mate.

Last year I was at a dinner in Lahore on my first trip to Pakistan and my colleague casually mentiomed that his wife was also his cousin. I was rather shocked thst he said that outloud so casually. Like bro, wtf mate…keep it in your pants when you’re hanging with family. Turns out the whole country is just cousin fuckers.
