  1. It’s probably just an attempt to placate some loyalists after his recent comments about how “Germans need to work more”

  2. I don’t see the EU stepping up to the plate, if not the US hegemony then there will be a power vacuum, best not let any autocracy like China take it. Course being the world police comes with the necessity of quick and controversial decisions that the EU seems utterly incapable of doing let alone deciding on at the moment.

    >“But I’m afraid we have to put it in even harsher terms: This order, as flawed as it has been even in its heyday, no longer exists.”

Amazing to see that coming from Merz. I expected another halfarsed “common security concerns” bullshit speech about the Arctic.

When even that Guy finally, publicly, can see how far things have gone – maybe there is hope after all.

  4. the real question isn’t whether the US squandered its leadership, it’s whether europe can actually fill the vacuum. we’ve been talking about strategic autonomy since 2016 and still can’t agree on a common defense procurement framework.

And that’s precisely why Merz is suggesting we just hit the reset button and carry on being friends.
Makes perfect sense, of course. /s

I wonder—did any of the politicians gathered at the conference ask Rubio whether they’ve dropped their claims on Greenland?
Or, as usual, did they just choose to ignore the white elephant in the room?

  6. Merz is scared that AfD is neck and neck to Union in the polls so he’s stealing some of their talking points. (and I hope he succeeds by the way)
