Some €136,745 has been raised by a long-distance cycling challenge in aid of patients suffering from end-stage renal disease.
In a statement Friday, the LifeCycle Foundation said it had concluded its 2025 fundraising campaign for last year’s LifeCycle Challenge, an annual event which sees cyclists cover long distances in aid of the foundation. Last year, cyclists rode from Jeddah to Petra.
The figure was unveiled at an event at the Salini Resort last week, where the route for this year’s challenge was also announced.
This year will see cyclists embark on a 2000km journey through Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda over 10 days.
“This remarkable cycling adventure, from Mombasa to Kigali, marks the expansion into the foundation’s 57th, 58th, and 59th countries, adding new chapters to its inspiring story”, the foundation said.
The organisation, which noted it had raised more than €4 million since 1999 for patients on dialysis, expressed its “sincere gratitude to the RIDT – University of Malta Research Trust for their invaluable support and dedication”.
The foundation supports Mater Dei’s renal unit and has sponsored couches for dialysis patients, provided a van for transporting patients to their treatments, and sponsored a trip to Lourdes for renal patients, it noted.
“Looking ahead, with the new destination announced, the LifeCycle Malta Foundation invites adventurers, cyclists, and supporters to join this inspiring mission”, the foundation said.
“Enrollment for the 2026 LifeCycle Challenge is now open, offering participants the opportunity to push their limits, embark on the adventure of a lifetime, and make a meaningful contribution to the fight against renal disease.”
The foundation’s main sponsor is Nescafé, its secondary sponsor Hili Ventures and platinum plus sponsors Smart Technologies, Brown’s and the Government of Malta.
Platinum sponsors include JPA, Laferla, The Web Alley, Nuun Hydration, M&Z, Valletta Waterfront, The Mimici Foundation, Unicare and the National Lottery, among others.
