Kinda surprised by Denmark tbf. Sure the geography of the mainland is not great for sports like skiing or snowboarding, but the Netherlands have a similar geography and they have plenty of medals

Lots of interesting omissions but no one has mentioned India, which has a billion people and plenty of mountains (though I’m not sure how many are reasonably suited to winter sports).

Wow, Denmark has never won gold at the winter Olympics???

Funny how Brazil which gets pretty much not snow has medals while Chile and Argentina which have extensive snow-capped mountains haven’t.

It’s always curious to think that Andean Bolivians and certain communities in Nepal like the Sherpas are conditioned for high altitude endurance and could pull off an advantage of all sorts in long distance events a bit like the conquest of the Marathon and 10k by Highlanders from Ethiopia .
One would think India and Pakistan could achieve some sort of winter olympic pedigree with the tallest mountains in their backyard and a couple of ski resorts thrown in too

Wow we (Denmark) are such a dissapointment in the winter olympics.

Kudos to Liechtenstein for having won a gold in the Winter Olympics, but never in the Summer Olympics (of all countries participating in both).

Definitely surprised by Denmark. And to a lesser extent Lithuania and Iceland.

Very proud of New Zealand considering we don’t have many opportunities for our winter athletes with limited skifields and expensive travel for competitions 😊

surprised at Chile and Argentina, where there’s plenty of snow and northern european immigrants that could have brought a winter sport tradition
