The Vrancea County Ambulance Service was, on Saturday evening, at the center of an unprecedented medical mobilization, after three young patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) arrived, in an interval of only five hours, at the Emergency Reception Unit (UPU)

Doctors and ambulances from Vrancea, Galați, Vaslui and Brăila formed a time trial team to transfer patients to Iași and Bucharest.

The information was made public through an emotional post on the Facebook account of the primary doctor of family medicine, Dr. Nicoleta Stoica, from SAJ Vrancea, who described the tense moments experienced by the medical teams involved.

Three heart attacks in young people, in just five hours

According to the Vrancea doctor’s account, the first patient with an acute myocardial infarction was picked up and transported by the crew of the Vrancea County Ambulance Service to a university center, after obtaining the necessary approvals for transfer to Iași or Bucharest.

The situation quickly became complicated when, shortly after, the second AMI patient arrived in the UPU. The only doctor available had already left on a missionand the pressure on the emergency system in Vrancea increased considerably.

Support came from colleagues from Galati County Ambulance Servicewho responded to the request and intervened to support the teams from Vrânca.

The critical moment:

When the third case of acute myocardial infarction appeared, the situation became critical. „Please find me a car and a doctor! Please!“, was the doctor’s desperate cryrendered in the public post.

In the context of medical staff shortages and constant pressure on emergency services, every crew and every doctor counts. The answer was not late.

„We are coming, doctor. We won’t let you!”, to the transmitted representatives of the Vaslui County Ambulance Service. Later, the support was also completed by Brăila County Ambulance Service.

The doctor Nicoleta Stoica emphasized the essential role of the colleagues from the Vrancea SAJ Dispatch, who coordinated the interventions and managed to set in motion the inter-county collaboration mechanism.

„I felt like a handful of people formed a great intercounty team. And the key was represented by our warm-hearted colleagues from the SAJ VN Dispatch!”the doctor said.

In the end, all three patients were transferred to medical centers in Iași and Bucharest for specialized treatment, proving that when the system works together, even borderline situations can be managed.
