The Embassy of Kosovo in Washington has announced that the state of Arizona has officially recognized February 17 as Kosovo Independence Day.

“Thank you to Governor Katie Hobbs for officially recognizing February 17th as Kosovo Independence Day in Arizona,” the Embassy’s response reads.

The announcement issued by the Governor’s Office states that “The State of Arizona is honored to stand with Albanian-Americans across the state to commemorate February 17, 2008 as Kosovo Independence Day.”

The document recalls that “on February 17, 2008, the Republic of Kosovo officially declared independence in Pristina”, describing this moment as a historic step based on the “principles of sovereignty and self-determination”.
