  1. Came home to see that all these clippings and big branches were in my yard after I did a massive clean yesterday from the rest of their hedges and trees constantly dropping leaves/shrubbery into my backyard.

It’s annoying as shit already as it is, but seeing this ticked me the fuck off. Not sure what to do/what’s within my rights but it seems super inconsiderate. No note or anything was left.

    What’s the play here?

I’m not sure which state or LGA that you are in, but in my area you are legally entitled to chuck it back over the fence.

What you actually do I think relies on your relationship with the neighbor. If it’s even reasonably cordial, it’s worth a chat before you do anything further.

  3. Try speaking with them first. Maybe it was accidental. Granted it doesn’t look it. If he tells you to fuck off throw it back over his fence. He might be reasonable and come clean it himself. You did say you were out, and I assume he couldn’t access your property while you were away.

It’s impossible to stop this sometimes. It’s passive aggressive to throw it back over. Just bin it.

  5. Bin it, appreciate they trimmed back a tree you found annoying. Move on with life.

If for some reason you can’t bin it, throw it back over.

I’m in the exact situation. My neighbour does it with a huge hedge. But, I don’t have to trim it, and they don’t have access to my yard to clean it up. So I just cut my losses and put it in the bin

  7. The move is to trim it regularly when it grows on your side so the neighbour doesn’t have to. Doubt there’s any malice to what’s happened, trimming trees is super tricky sometimes and it’s hard to mitigate where some branches fall.

  8. If you haven’t had any issues with them so far, I wouldn’t create one over this. Maybe try make light of it when you see them next, say ‘the trim looks good’ or something, and just see if they mention the branch, they probably will.

If they don’t then just mention it next time, say something like if you need access to clear up the branches just let me know.
Then and only then chuck it back over.

  9. Crazy world we live in where the first thought is to post on reddit rather than speaking with our neighbour.
Not taking a direct dig at you, it’s more a symptom of the times.

  10. I always thought if it was growing over the fence them that part of it is your responsibility. If that’s true then I think your neighbour did you a favour by timing it lol

  11. If it grows from his property and it overhangs onto yours you are within your rights to cut it off at the fence line and throw the offcuts back onto his property.

Here he’s done the cutting. He should remove them from your yard as he made the mess but you are within your rights to throw them back over the fence if you wish.

Overhang on your side is actually your problem.

I’d still be tempted to throw it over their fence though.

  13. This is so trivial. You might benefit from talking with someone about how you are reacting to things. It’s not a moral issue. More a medical one. You may have experienced something difficult in recent years and not realise how tightly you are holding on. Just a sincere thought from someone who has been there.
