As I understood, the problem is not (usually) that people don’t want to work, but that they can’t find a job.

Sounds like just a way to circumvent the collective labor agreements and get access to labor you can more easily abuse. Seems like something KOK/Persu would plan to exploit immigrants as much as possible, while still keeping them around to be the scapegoat for whatever problem they don’t want to or can’t fix.

I’m guessing the main goal here has nothing to do with getting cheap labour like many comments mentioned. If it’s the same type of work long-term unemployed Finns are offered, it’s more like rehab than particularly productive work. Therefore it’s much more likely that the aim is to make Finland less attractive to immigrants who cannot get or do not want real jobs. So basically a deterrent.

Now I am thinking the same things that everyone is thinking, slavery, indentured servitude, perhaps similar or worse than kafala system. I am aware that there are more wrong ways to do this and I’m pretty sure that it’s gonna be implemented very poorly that it will probably be labor law violation at best and severe human rights violation at worst.
But on the other hand…
I know a few bad examples of very healthy adults that have done nothing than go to the mandatory classes seminars organised by TE palvelu, (which is apparently about how to write cv and how to do interview), and botch job interviews for closer to a decade now (and boast about it) and I mean both native Finns and Foreigners (naturalized as well as PRs) . I mean if you’re unemployed for lets say 2 years continuously, and you have no health issues, maybe you should do some community service at least at the rate of minimum wage (maybe every other month)?
Don’t think this is gonna be just for immigrants, this is certainly more stepping down with the way the unemployed are treated in this country. The Right knows that the issue is not with having uneducated (immigrant) workforce, it is about not having jobs available (and plenty of studies showed that companies dont wanna hire immigrants regardless how qualified they are).
You can force the unemployed to slave away with tiny income (which is not salary for the work they’re doing but free labour for unemployement benefits which is basically a scam to avoid paying salary for work) but I don’t see how having thousands of people unable to buy anything or pay anything substantial in taxes are able to contribute in running the society. And with the tax cuts to the politicians and their wealthy friends it’s not like they’re gonna pay off the slack of having a slave-labour class. Unless they start bringing even more slave labour from abroad , but considering how outside of refugees, most immigrants can just move away, and go work in jobs in countries where they’d actually get hired regardless how foreign their name or dark their skin.

Unemployed native Finns have been doing this for a long time. I hate this woman, but this just sounds like holding immigrants to the same standard as natives.

Then it isn’t social benefits. If you work for receiving money, that is called being employed. The payments name is then wage or salary.
As an immigrant, you don’t know how frustrated we feel whenever some foreign people ask about how to abuse the system. The issue with many abusers isn’t that they’re lazy. In fact, many of them are very hard‑working and willing to put in long hours. The problem is that they prefer to work under the table while still collecting Kela benefits. Doing so makes them cheaper to hire, allows them to pay much less in taxes, eligible to more Kela benefits. You’d be surprised how often they praise themselves as the hardest workers and complain about how “lazy” the natives are. It’s annoying, since the Finnish system punish whoever want to work harder legally, while benefits who prefer to work illegally.
My thought so far:
Pros: It would help prevent abuse by people who work under the table while still receiving Kela benefits. The cost of getting Kela benefits would then become too expensive.
Cons: It could lead to more supply of cheap labor. (Or it might actually end up reducing the supply of cheap labor since this would be a deal breaker for whoever want to come here just to exploit the system)

I’m from Finland, and the problem is that there are not enough jobs. And yet, the ideological idiots are claiming that people are unemployed because they are lazy. This blond, racist moron is even worse. She’s basically claiming that immigrants are lazy because of genetic or cultural reasons.

How about just deport the ones without stable income and give the jobs to unemployed with real compensation.

I see this also means that I, a native Finn who struggles with 18 hours of work a week, would need to do 37 hours of unpaid work in the case my financial situation collapsed and I needed to apply for social assistance (Edit: =toimeentulotuki). Which in turn would lead me to not have any energy to apply for paid work (I need heavy assistance landing jobs in the first place), so I would be a de facto slave due to the pit of energy drainage that has been created.
Because this most likely would not be limited to immigrants alone.
And this sounds idiotic no matter where you are from.
I think it would just be easier to change to constitution, so that foreigners cant get any social security benefits.
Then please also give us a refund on all the mandatory social and unemployment contributions that have been deducted from our salaries.
