TheLeafOnline traveled to Europe in 2025 to check out the cannabis scene in Portugal, Spain and France. It turns out there is a lot of cannabis available but mainly in the form of cannabinoid hemp. Here’s a slide show of shops we encountered in those three countries.
Low-THC cannabis, generically referred to as CBD, is legal to sell in the European Union, and all sorts of cannabis products from flowers to salves, teabags, beverages to hempseed oil soaps, skincare products and, of course, gear. Some CBD stores specialize in rare cannabinoids and hemp products, others offer delta-8 THC or delta-9 THCa varieties or even low-THC hemp flowers that have been augmented with synthetic THC due to a loophole in the current laws. They tasted good and did the trick.
We saw many shops throughout the more urban and touristic areas of Portugal, France and Spain, but only found marijuana-friendly cannabis social clubs in Spain. While Barcelona is best known for its social clubs, we also found one in Sevilla and heard of them in Madrid.
