The Russia-Ukraine air war continued on Tuesday ahead of the latest round of negotiations between the warring sides in Geneva, mediated by the United States.
In the Sumy region in northern Ukraine, a 68-year-old woman was killed in a Russian drone attack, according to the regional prosecutor’s office. Her two grandchildren, aged 7 and 15, as well as their parents, were said to have been injured. A woman and a man in the neighbouring house were also injured.
In the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, three people were injured, one of them seriously, military administration chief Serhiy Lysak said.
Air-raid alarms were triggered six times overnight in the city on the Black Sea, Lysak wrote on Telegram. Infrastructure and civilian buildings were said to have been damaged.
According to the electricity supplier DTEK, Russian attacks once again hit the energy supply of the Odessa region. The destruction was described as extraordinarily severe, and the supplier said the repairs would take a long time, without providing details.
In Dnipro, Russian attacks also caused fires, according to the authorities.
The Ukrainian military, in turn, targeted sites in Russia. According to the civil protection staff of the Krasnodar region in southern Russia, a fire broke out in Ilsky on an area of around 700 square metres in an oil refinery following a drone attack. No injuries were reported.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for nearly four years. As part of its defensive campaign, it also targets sites in Russia.
Representatives of Russia and Ukraine, meeting in the Swiss city of Geneva on Tuesday, are due to hold two days of further US-mediated negotiations on a possible end to the war that began on February 24, 2022.
