The Prairie Park Advisory Council Events Committee will host a Game Night at Kennedy Park Fieldhouse, 11320 S. Western Ave., on Thursday, March 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Adults only, $5 per person.
Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Games will include some old favorites and some new ones.
The Beverly Arts Center (BAC), 2407 W. 111th St.,, will present Disney’s “Newsies,” on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 26 and 27, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m.
“Newsies” tells the story of a group of young newspaper sellers in New York City who organize a strike after publishing giants Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the expense of the newsboys’ livelihood.
The Newsies form a union and discover the strength that comes from standing together.
In connection with the themes of the show, the BAC will host “Power of the Press,” a special post-show panel discussion on Saturday, Feb. 28, immediately following the performance. The panel will discuss the state of journalism in the past, present and future.
The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Pkwy., in University Park, will host “All That Jazz,” on Thursday, March 5, at 10 a.m., and Saturday, March 7, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
“All That Jazz” is a high-energy celebration of American dance—past, present and future.
From the golden age of jazz to today’s bold new moves, this vibrant performance showcases choreography and dance by talented students, esteemed faculty and accomplished alumni from Governors State University’s Theatre and Performance Studies and Dance Company.
