That wasn’t an apology. That was qualifying one statement as grounds to make many more outrageous and unfounded claims that just normalise Islamophobia. And using the “but we have an Islamic PHON candidate” is the equivalent of “but I have a non-white friend so I can’t be racist”.

  2. Swank_on_a_plank on

Not the Shovel, but there’s the catch; a non-apology apology just because of one of her candidate’s background. Wonder how Pauline even approved them?

That’s a common way to diffuse these idiots though, isn’t it? They know “the good one”, but the rest are *evil*.

I don’t have the willpower to watch the whole interview, but I wonder if they brought up how our Bondi hero is Muslim?

  3. this was only an apology if saying “i once knew a non-practicing muslim who was ok” is an apology.

  4. Still get the “the radical left call everyone racist” crowd when this is your glorious leader, how much more blatant can it get

Good onya Pauline! It’s a sign of wisdom to acknowledge when you’ve said something stupid and to apologize for your comments and the hurt they may have caused..

In that spirit, I will offer a partial apology from my own previous statement that there are no good PHON senators and that all of them have a face like a French bulldog getting a colonoscopy, a brain the size of a found-in-the-sofa-cushions cashew and a voice like a dentists drill trying to mimic a Tassie devils mating call.

“Yeah, nah, some of ’em might not be that shit, I suppose. Dunno. Why are you listening to me, I’m a fuckin’ idiot?”

Hope that partial apology is acceptable.

I’m sure Hanson wouldn’t tolerate someone saying, “There are no good One Nation voters.”

    Her vitriol cannot be tolerated.

  7. Her fear of people who aren’t fish and chip shop owners from SEQ, and her racist remarks resulting from this fear, make her totally unfit for public office.

She’s never actually achieved anything in 30 years in Parliament via new legislation, she hasn’t made Australia a better place.

The worst thing is, she hasn’t even done anything for her voters. She hasn’t stopped immigration, and she preferences Labor every time when the vast majority of her voter base if they were informed would prefer to vote LNP.

  8. Now I wonder when she’ll give a partial apology for one of her party members being charged with terrorism.

  9. Pathetic. Sadly I had a family member saying the exact same thing the other week. Word for word. What is it with the Right, they seem to sometimes never think for themselves but repeat catchphrases they read on the internet.

Only “WOKE” people apologise. Careful Pauline or you’ll put your supporters offside.

Her entire career has essentially just been about generating outrage and getting attention from that. We should hold racist fuckwits accountable of course, but I do wonder if the media could just simply ignore her more often. Stop giving her fuel and suffocate the fire that is her benefiting from public discourse.

  12. I wonder why they hate so much muslims, have they met some ? or they hate them because they are white and so they think that they are over all no white people ?

I met many muslims in Australia, they are very friendly. Seriously, people love creating problem because they got a s:hitty life.

It’s not even remotely an apology. If anything, it was just an opportunity to restate her shitty views.

  14. Hot_Cauliflower_8060 on

She said what will make her supporters happy. And she got away with it. Push the barriers and little more and then a little more still until she can do and say whatever she wants. Just like THAT guy over there.

  15. To be clear… She isn’t the problem any more than Trump is the problem. The problem is the selfish, fearful, hateful people who vote for them. If our countries weren’t half full of such people, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

  16. TransportationLong67 on

These kinds of comments and partial apologies are going to become more frequent as media scrutiny intensifies. In the past she’d double down but now she has to retract or risk losing wider support.

  17. Despite the surge in popularity, the reality is these views prevent them from being in the mainstream. Only reason Trump got away with it is because the GOP is a mainstream party.

Back in 1997 I moved to a foreign country and made friends with a South Korean dude. We were hanging out one day and he expressed surprise that I wanted to be his friend because he thought Australians didn’t like Asian people. I pressed him on this and it was because of Pauline Hanson’s infamous racist diatribe against Asian immigrants that got beamed over every TV station all over the world. Fuck you Pauline you racist cunt. You make us all look bad.

Pauline Hanson is a xenophobic bigot.

Social cohesion doesn’t require our neighbours to match our skin tone or faith fantasies, they just need to have the same strong level of commitment to human decency.

If you feel drawn to a divisive beacon of hate to validate your biases and feelings just so you can feel “safe”, you’re very much doing it wrong.

Australia is definitely overdue for a major shakeup, the crabs in a bucket greed is destroying us.

We can do immensely better than exploitation obsessed Labor and LNP, and we certainly don’t need to keep immigration at such ridiculously high levels when we can’t manage to house those we’ve already got, but to give the reigns of already fracturing Australian society to such bigoted people would be colossal mistake.

Labor immensely fucked up with their heavily authoritarian nanny state bullshit and a lot of people are going to stop using them as a preferential vote shield. If we don’t do something to come up with an honorable alternative to ONP, that’s who we will likely end up with.

If you are a decent human and would like to try and avoid living under a hellish bigotocracy, consider running as an independent and make yourself and your stances well known in your communities.

  20. I would have thought she would have said: The only good Muslim is a dead one. See! Not racist!

My favourite part of her interview with ABC news this morning was when she mentioned how terrified people were to visit Lakemba, and James promptly said, ‘oh we are looking forward to broadcasting live from there on Friday morning,’ and she didn’t have a whole lot more to say about that.

  22. They had her on ABC breakfast this morning.

Oh my, for someone that’s so pro for a “white Australia”, I forget just how horribly bad her English is – she can’t speak at all proper sentences. It’s embarrassing.

  23. YallRedditForThis on

and just like that ONP will squander the lead they had over the libs and be back in the rubbish dump again. Albo is a lot of things but he’s not a racist pos.

“Senator Hanson then suggested that the government’s policies were being unduly influenced by Muslim voters”, has she been in a coma lately? 😅

  25. A_r0sebyanothername on

I’d gladly welcome another 100,000 Muslims into Australia by the end of the week in exchange for shipping Pauline on a one-way ticket off this island.
