Agreement with Paval Holding moves forward as part of the retailer’s portfolio review.
Carrefour has entered exclusive negotiations to sell its Romanian operations to Paval Holding, marking a major step in the retailer’s ongoing strategic review. The deal, which assigns an enterprise value of €823 million to the business, would transfer all Carrefour activities in the country to the Romanian investment group.
Paval Holding is the family‑owned company behind Dedeman, Romania’s leading DIY retailer and one of the country’s most notable entrepreneurial success stories. The transaction aligns with Carrefour’s plan to refocus on its core markets while enabling Paval Holding to expand its footprint in national retail.
Carrefour Romania currently operates 478 stores across multiple formats, including 55 hypermarkets, 191 supermarkets, 202 convenience stores and 30 discount stores. The business generated €3.2 billion in gross sales (including VAT) in 2024 and in 2025 estimates, representing about 3.5% of total group sales.
Alexandre Bompard, Chairman and CEO of Carrefour, said: “The sale of Carrefour Romania confirms the good progress of the portfolio review initiated in 2025… I am confident that the agreement reached with Paval Holding represents a great opportunity for their continued success.”
The divestment follows other major portfolio moves completed over the past year, including the buyout of minority interests in Carrefour Brazil and the sale of Carrefour Italy. The company says the transaction supports its broader transformation agenda.
Completion of the deal remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected in the second half of 2026.
