SetSail, one of the leading sailing schools in Romania, confirms the growing interest of the corporate sector in recreational sailing. In 2025, approximately 350 students attended the school’s theoretical and practical programs, around 75% of whom were managers, entrepreneurs, or corporate professionals. Since the school was founded 16 years ago, more than 4,300 people have completed SetSail courses. Compared to the first editions, when the number of students ranged between 60 and 80 per year, participation has increased by over 500%, reflecting the upward trend in interest for recreational sailing in Romania.
SetSail trains approximately 350 students annually. The theoretical modules take place in Bucharest and Limanu (Mangalia), while the practical training is held in Limanu Port on the Black Sea. The school offers comprehensive courses for obtaining all categories of boating licenses, addressing both beginners with no prior sailing experience and those with previous practical or theoretical knowledge.
“Sailing is not just a hobby or a leisure activity. At sea, you learn to make quick decisions, communicate clearly, and coordinate a team in unpredictable situations. These skills are equally valuable in business and in personal life. The growing interest among managers, entrepreneurs, and professionals shows that sailing is not only a sport, but also a form of personal and professional development. At SetSail, we set out to build a community of sea enthusiasts who grow together with us, and today we can say that this vision is taking shape,” explains Ovidiu Drugan, Founder and Instructor at SetSail.
For 2026, SetSail will organize seven Yachting C D S course sessions, offering certifications recognized for coastal maritime navigation up to six nautical miles from the shore, inland waterway navigation, and sailing. The courses will take place on the following dates: February 23 – March 5, May 4 – 14, June 8 – 11, July 6 – 9, August 3 – 6, August 30 – September 2, and September 21 – October 1.
In parallel, SetSail also organizes corporate team-building activities focused on developing communication and teamwork skills, leadership development and team coordination, as well as decision-making in unforeseen situations similar to those encountered at sea.
Twice a year, SetSail organizes the Cyclades Sailing School Expeditions in Greece. The May 2025 edition set a record for Romanian sailing: over 400 Romanian sailors celebrated May 1st on boats, with approximately 60 vessels participating, including monohulls and catamarans. Most of the skippers were SetSail graduates who had become captains of their own boats.
