  1. I think this would be a good moment to stop reporting US citizens living in Europe to the IRS. There is no point in holding up US law on EU territory when they won’t even allow us to holding up EU law in the EU.

  2. So the US government wants the names and addresses of people critical of ICE but believe nowhere else in the world should have content controls.

  3. The answer to that would ultimately be a european great wall similar to what china has, and the more horrible shit you can do with AI the more likely this will become.

  4. So… what’s stopping the EU from blocking access to this “freedom.gov”, by ordering ISPs to filter it, just like any other site?

  5. > The U.S. State Department is developing an online portal that will enable people in Europe and elsewhere to see content banned by their governments including alleged hate speech and terrorist propaganda, a move Washington views as a way to counter censorship, three sources familiar with the plan said.

    > … user activity on the site will not be tracked.

Oh hey, is that the USA supporting pedophiles again?

  6. “and added that user activity on the site will not be tracked.”

I doubt the sincerity of that statement.

Anyway, TOR is still a thing, why bother with anything else? Like, sure, alternatives are always welcome, but vetting them would take ages, and TOR is already well established, trusted, and quite secure(if you’re not an idiot).

  7. So there’s going to be a site setup by the US government rife with AI CSEM, nazi conspiracy theories, deepfakes and Russian bot farms?

    Very classy.

  8. Just block it on national security grounds, literally thats the easiest workaround for any state to stop it.

Huh? I can _already_ see all that if I want, why the shuddering hell would I go to a USA Gov site to expose just what a lunatic I am?

Huh…maybe watching a few ultra-right videos on there would make getting through USA border control (not that I plan on going any time soon), set that “One of us” flag.

  10. Yeah, how about Europe hosts an online portal for US citizens to view an unredacted version of the Epstein files, obviously the names of victims should remain redacted though.

  11. Soo Elon’s nazi hellhole getting investigated so now he is gonna ask the fascist U.S regime for help?

The US is a rogue state that wants to destroy the Western civilization. We must deal accordingly.

Hosted by the US federal government?? Bwahahhaaa

Be ready to be tracked and have massive propaganda shoved down your throats.

  14. Could be a shame if other US content will also be available online for everyone and our government won’t give too much about piracy and such… /s

  15. All of this while the USA is asking for all visitors to hand them over their social networks and mail addresses over the last 10 years.

Seems unnecessary given the existence of VPNs, unless the EU bans those too, which would be the logical next step of a censorship regime.

  17. Good. This content ban nonsense is entirely the wrong way around. If you’re worried about your kid’s internet usage, talk to them. The only people that truly benefit from this are media company lobbyists trying to protect their region locks so people can’t circumvent them with VPNs.

Putin also works to break and circumvent EU laws while trying to destabilise Western democracies.

  19. So they are against censorship and yet if us here in EU try to have a look at one of the local regional news (propaganda) websites from some state in America it won’t show it – says “sorry not available in your region”…

I think it is a good idea. We should help our brothers who live under a communist regime.

  21. This is a good thing.

Refusing to send scans of my ID or face to prove my age, I’ve been forced a number of times to use a VPN to read certain tweets or posts, even Tweets from proper media outlets regarding incidents only a few miles away blocked under the OSA for some strange reason, even stuff regarding Iran. Its to protect children apparently even though I can view as much Ukraine war gore as I want.

  22. Not trying to be the tinfoil guy but aren’t the folks pushing for these online “regulations” also US backed?

  23. > freedom.gov

These mofos will put “truth”social on a US government portal, won’t they? Jeez…

So The administration wants to do freedom on other countries but their own. Did they just give up i give up on Americans so I planning on replacing Americans to someone more loyalty

  25. I’m sure the people now starving because they don’t get SNAP benefits anymore and they’ve been kicked off healthcare will understand and die happily knowing Donald Trump’s continued investment in foreign countries after starting with those 40 billion for Argentina.

Now that’s what I call America first – take away from US citizens and invest it into other countries.

You are a country ruled by a right wing populist? Great, have this $40 billion dollar cookie as a reward.

You are a country that doesn’t like right wing populists? I’ll invest billions in American taxpayer money into propaganda against you.

Literally, he’s giving American taxpayer money either way, no matter what.

  26. The US finds out region locking can be used to lock them out too, and doesn’t like that. It’s about time to finally end that and get rid of the need to bypass these practices with VPNs.

//for the whole world – no more region locking – 1 streaming catalog for everyone

They hate that we want to block their propaganda. Why is the freedom of speech of another country their problem?
