    Uncompliant, a complete schmoozle.

Great entertainment and surprisingly informative, but I am under no illusion that there are many properties out there that would be 100 percent compliant to regs.

The bigger and more important question is around builders abilities to skirt warranty and other liability by simply closing up shop and starting another company. This is a huge issue, some would say a complete schmozzle.

  2. “or just in it for the clicks” – The Age

Ya kidding, modern business with a modern way of making money

  3. Bringing awareness to the industry to improve quality and compliance is never a bad thing though there are often items that this guy brings up that may not be technically compliant but are fit for purpose and won’t actually fail but the regs and performance solution process are quite clear.

  4. i mean if he’s finding legit faults then who cares if he’s in it for the clicks? some of these places are absolute death traps

Take a look at this mate. Man does his job with pride, which is the opposite of the buildings he inspects. I’m glad he’s around on the socials to shine a much needed light in this industry.

  6. “Defect-busting or just in it for clicks? ” says The Age, shoving their article behind a paywall…
I love the guy because any education about dodgy builder shit = here for it.

  7. We need more inspectors like him calling out these dodgy tradespeople (and I’m not saying all are)

Educating the public by exposing the industry’s dirty tricks while being entertaining? Take my click and support.

  9. From the videos I’ve watched of his, even a peanut with no understanding of regs can see it’s non-compliant.

Shocking to see how many dodgy cunt tradies out there who don’t give a fuck about their craft

He’s an absolute legend and these fucks in the building industry trying to discredit him are as transparent as they are crooked.

Watch his You Tube channel and it’s scary with all the cowboys out there doing shit work.

  12. Total cringe, but this lad knows his stuff pretty well. I’d bet 99% of builds are non-compliant in some way, but the real question is whether it matters for the actual integrity of the building (safety first, then use requirements of course). A non-compliant step/ledge might be a pain, but it isn’t going to make the building fall over. Cracks and improper footings and lack of waterproofing however… ouch.

More power to this guy who is empowering more people who get completely f*cked by bad trades/tradies and have no way to protect themselves.

Case in point, unless you are a professional like him, how would you know the first thing about what is compliant or not? Australian Standards are mega $$$ and they are pretty sh!tty to read for a lay-person (I’m an architect and they’re fucking confusing half the time – at least the NCC makes more sense!).
Doubled with pretty average building surveyors (who overly rely on actual tradie’s tickets, rather than their own inspections) and consumers get royally fucked by builders, especially if they don’t have an architect or a PM to bat for them.

Imagine an industry so bad that someone is making bank just from pointing out how sh#t their workmanship is. Never been able to trust tradies to do their job right and now its getting more exposure and everyone knws. And of course they try to blame immigrants when the industry cops flack, typical of that demographic.

  14. “they can oversimplify complex issues and create unnecessary concern and a breakdown in the relationship between the consumer and the builder,” an MBV spokesman said.”

I’m pretty sure the substandard builds seen over the last decade or more has eroded trust more than shining a light on the corner cutting.

Yet again, the rich and powerful building lobby doesn’t like it when their shoddy practices are revealed to the public.

Site inspections and their ilk are the transparency that’s sorely needed.

  15. I worked for a builder where the purchaser got this inspector to come through the job.

Pros: He was thorough and knew the regs. The report was huge but a lot of copy paste from a template. He was professional, I asked not to be included in the video and he respected that.

Cons: He jumps the gun for views and says non-compliant when in reality there was a Performance Solution for those items and he wasn’t (at the time) across the details.

  16. It’s one of the most informative and relevant building shows available, he’s doing a great job and making it entertaining at the same time. People need places to live and lack practical knowledge, have any experience in the construction industry or know reputable builders and the TikTok inspector helps fill some of that gap. A little bit of investment, a proper production company and these kinds of shows would probably do well

Doing the work some would say needs to be done by good journalism. Highlighting the persistent low quality non compliance properties out there.

He’s praying on people. I am semi shocked how Redditors here think he is a legend? Big difference between this random dude and a BS who signs off on real standards.

Call it like it is – he is just a quality control dude. Nothing to do with real compliance standards.

He’s a legend, his episode with Adrian Portelli was crazy that it’s even happening at that high end level.

Almost put an offer on a place until I saw a vid he did on the complex. Glad we caught it; saved us tens of thousands of dollars in future repairs. Agent tried to sweet talk us so we asked if any of the things in the video had been addressed or planned, and he went radio silent.

Honestly, they need more of it. I just had my house built and the builders forgot to install a storm water drain. So for one year it was draining into the house. I only noticed it when the paint started to bubble up on the walls. Thankfully most of the water did drain out through the brickwork.

His videos are getting boring. Just seems to be the same box gutter, waterproofing, roof issues each episode.
