On 17 February 2026, in Baku, another round of political consultations at the level of Deputy Ministers was held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Georgian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia, while the Azerbaijani delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Samir Sharifov.
During the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the close strategic partnership and intensive bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the positive dynamics of the exchange of high-level visits, as well as visits conducted at the level of sectoral ministries and agencies.
During the consultations, the parties conducted an in-depth review of current issues on the bilateral agenda within the framework of their strategic cooperation, including matters relating to the economy, trade, tourism, culture, education and other areas of mutual interest.
In addition, the parties exchanged views on the ongoing peace processes in the South Caucasus region. The importance of peace and stability was underscored as a prerequisite for ensuring the region’s successful development and prosperity. The discussion also addressed Georgia’s role and efforts in the context of promoting peace in the region. The parties once again reaffirmed their firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed the prospects for further deepening Georgia-Azerbaijan trade and economic cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of enhancing connectivity in the region, as well as further intensifying bilateral cooperation in the fields of transport, energy, and customs.
The parties drew attention to the significance of the Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey trilateral regional cooperation format, underscoring the necessity of implementing joint strategic projects and fully realizing the region’s transit and transport potential. Opportunities for partnership in the field of green energy were also explored.
The discussion also addressed the issue of further deepening cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan within the framework of international organizations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties once again reaffirmed their readiness to intensify cooperation and to promote the further development of the existing strategic partnership in accordance with the interests of the two countries.
