If am flying in from other country to directly to Tromso airport, Is mini drone (DJI mini4 Pro) allowed to carry and use in Norway, particularly Tromso area.

(being well aware that it is not allowed near areas like govt., Military and Airports).

Also, if i am travelling from other Schengen country where I can use my mini drone without any restriction, would i be allowed to carry it to Tromso and use it?

  1. and from a lot of Norwegians….. please leave it at home. normal tourism is already annoying enough, please do not add any drones to that.
Just look around you and enjoy the scenery, there is no need for drone shots

Tromsø has a drone graveyard at the airport – the island is for the most part a now fly zone and it can get super expensive if you fly there.

“Also, if i am travelling from other Schengen country where I can use my mini drone without any restriction,”

You mean like the tourists from various countries who are caught spying with drones for russia knowingly and unknowingly who fly in from other Schengen countries?

  4. For Tromsø in particular, the entire city is too close to the airport to fly drones. In fact they recently put up a display at the airport with seized drones to warn tourists bringing drones. (Of course in cities the flying is banned anyway, but the Tromsø airport ban covers many of the places tourists go to near Tromsø.)

Also note that DJI mini4 Pro is more than 250g with the battery. So this bumps you up one class and have stricter rules, registration and exam.

Thank you guys for your Input and saving my money beforehand.

I had asked as I am into photography and had visited norway earlier without any drone just DSLR equipment. Now with a mini drone I wanted to know the reality as few of my fellow photographers have flown the drone in Norway.

  6. In addition to

    -registering your drone,

-checking the map in the Ninox app (made by the Norwegia!n Civil Aviation Authority) for geographical restrictions,

-and making sure not to record strangers without consent,

Be mindful of traveling with big lithium ion batteries. Would be a bad start to your trip to discover that the airport took all your batteries. Make sure to check the regulations for both checked in baggage as well as carry-on. It is usually safer to have batteries in your carry-on.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I’d just like to add [safetofly.no](http://safetofly.no) as an incredibly useful resource. It is as far as I know the only one that can easily show protected areas that are no fly zones. Some nature reserves may allow drones, but unless you want to study complicated legal texts for each specific area in Norwegian, just treat them all as no fly zones.

Here’s a quick link with protected areas layer (verneområder) enabled: [https://safetofly.no/wayfinder/default?topic=06834b6e-dda1-7f93-8000-9f081fc6fbd5&x=18.686098&y=69.645114&z=10.1](https://safetofly.no/wayfinder/default?topic=06834b6e-dda1-7f93-8000-9f081fc6fbd5&x=18.686098&y=69.645114&z=10.1)

    Thank you for flying responsibly!

  8. Im pretty certain the entire Island is a no fly zone. Drones are cool, but you need to get out of the city to use it.
