Egyptian authorities are introducing new rules for travellers as they phase out paper arrival and departure cards in favour of digital systems to speed up airport processes.
As of February 2026 travellers entering the country must carry their passports, which should be valid for at least a further six months upon entry. The passport should also have at least one blank page. Make sure your passport is not broken or spoiled, as this could lead to rejection. Renew your passport if you need to.
In the past, holidaymakers heading for Hurghada and other destinations needed to fill out paper arrival cards alongside a visa.

Now, a digital visa system is being set up, though the basic entry requirements for vacationers to Egypt are not expected to change, meaning most people still need a visa that you can apply for online in advance. Many airports also issue visas on arrival.
The system seeks to reduce waiting times and streamline airport processes. But as it is in its initial stages, ideally, check with your travel company well before you go to ensure you know all you need.
