The meeting coincided with the 18th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kosovo and the United States.

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department in Washington to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Osmani said talks focused on reinforcing the alliance, US support for Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the American military presence in the country as a key factor for regional stability. They also discussed Kosovo’s NATO aspirations and expanding cooperation in defense and the economy.

The meeting coincided with the 18th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kosovo and the United States. Washington was among the first to recognize Kosovo’s independence in 2008 and continues to contribute to its security through around 600 troops in NATO’s KFOR mission.

Osmani is visiting the US and recently took part in the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council, an initiative launched by President Donald Trump aimed at resolving global conflicts. Kosovo is among the founding members and has pledged support, including the potential deployment of troops. | BGNES
