Resume:

A controversial vaccine study led by SDU professors Peter Aaby and Christine Stabell Benn faces sharp international criticism from both the WHO and US congressmen. The study involves delaying the hepatitis B vaccination for 7,000 out of 14,000 newborns in Guinea-Bissau for six weeks to test non-specific effects. The critics consider the withholding of the vaccine to be ethically indefensible in a high-risk area.

At the same time, a grant of ten million kroner from the American Health Agency (CDC) arouses political suspicion in the USA. The members of Congress fear that the funds have been granted under the influence of the environment surrounding Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in order to retrospectively create evidence for vaccine-critical attitudes. The researchers’ practices are further questioned due to accusations of having previously withheld data and biased results.

Danish experts warn that the case threatens the international reputation of Danish research, and they criticize the SDU management for its silence on the matter.
