Switzerland has recorded a better financial performance than predicted for 2025. Despite initial projections for a deficit of around 800 million francs, the Swiss government has ended the year with a surplus of 300 million francs, the Federal Council announced on Wednesday, albinfo.ch reports.

According to the authorities, this positive result is mainly a consequence of the additional revenues contributed by Geneva to the federal treasury, directly affecting the improvement of the budget balance.

However, despite the surplus, the Federal Council warned that the financial situation remains fragile. The authorities stressed that the austerity plan for 2027–2029 will remain in force, considering it necessary for the medium-term stability of public finances.

“Without these measures, deficits are expected to reach between 2 and 4 billion francs from 2027,” the Federal Council’s official statement said.

The Swiss government has emphasized that fiscal discipline remains a strategic priority, at a time when pressures on the public budget are increasing as a result of structural spending, economic challenges and long-term financial commitments. /Albinfo.ch
