this is fucked. nice and early and you already skipping stations because you 8mins late now? nice joy to find the service after that also late and skipping too. 8mins late skipping all stations until city circle yet the next train arriving is 25mins later. steep trade off for running late now shitty services

This is not a new thing and happens a lot less now than the old days. Trains will be late all day if they don’t get them back on time before the main peak starts
This happens at least twice a week between toongabbie and wentworthville
I’m with OP, an 8 min delay should be made up at the end of the run. I feel like recently they’ve been more likely to skip stops for a minor delay.
When something’s gone wrong, it’s simply a way to minimise the inconvenience to the least number of passengers. If you know of a better way that can be implemented in minutes, and be effective in minutes, then please share it. This train will arrive at central, on time, and in a matter of a few minutes all subsequent trains will be on time. The alternative is that all trains on this and perhaps other lines will be late all day. I call that a quick fix on an extremely complex network.
I will agree that two consecutive trains skipping the same stations sucks balls. You would probably quickly forget if one service skipped your station (and you knew it was a minor station) but it’s gonna live in your head forever if two services do. It’s going to become a “the train ALWAYS skips my station” anecdote. So customer perception perhaps should be part of the formula to restore to timetable back to health. I don’t know if it’s modelled what would happen of the first train skipped Summer Hill but not Ashfield, and the second train did the opposite. 8 minutes have got to be cribbed back one way or another. The problem has to be resolved.
At this time of morning, a slight delay can cripple the entire morning peak. It’s not ideal, but unfortunately a necessity.
Before we go down the rabbit hole, delays do suck. However, most delays can be attributed to passengers stopping the doors from closing, especially around peak time. That extra 30 seconds butterflies thought the network and balloons fast.
This is exactly what should happen. Rip the band-aid off while the delay is still small, otherwise the ripple effect will last the entire morning peak and for more parts of the network.
Catch the next one, this line runs every 4 mins at this time
It’s the number 1 way management have to get back on-time.
The good of many outweigh the good of the few.
Sucks for you but it helps bring the timetable back into order.

If you don’t sacrifice a few trains on the early run, the entire peak would be in absolute meltdown.
I know it’s personally fucked, and it’s frustrating. Sorry for that (not that I can do anything about it :P) but if Sydney trains just let the trains be late, the cascading delays would result in a real network issue.
Think of the greater good, comrade.
Sydney Trains are beyond a joke at the moment, paying through the nose for services that cant withstand more than 30mins of rain and have technical issues every second day. STOP TAPPING ON WE LOVE PAYING FOR SHIT THAT DOESNT WORK IN SYDNEY.
