Kosovo police today denied allegations by some Belgrade media outlets that masked Albanians from Kosovo shot at members of the Serbian police in the Ground Security Zone.
Belgrade media reported yesterday that in the village of Madljike, in the Kuršumlija municipality, a group of masked Albanians set up a blockade on a local road and then fired several shots from firearms at a police patrol.
“The Kosovo Police, with full institutional responsibility, clarifies that it has taken all necessary police measures, using all institutional verification mechanisms, and that there is no evidence or official data about any recorded or actual incident in the border area of that zone,” the statement said.
It is added that “similar disinformation” was spread at the beginning of the month, when Belgrade media reported that more than 100 shots were fired from automatic weapons at a Serbian Interior Ministry patrol in the village of Parada in Kuršumljica, after which the attackers fled to Kosovo.
“So far, based on all available sources, it has not been possible to confirm that such incidents occurred either yesterday or on February 5. KFOR has also been informed of all actions taken,” the Kosovo Police said.
