MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarusian diplomats are maintaining contact with citizens currently in Qatar, Aleksei Malafei, Head of the diplomatic mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Belarus in the State of Qatar, said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“We are in constant contact with our citizens who live here. We have created a group in one of the messengers for the Belarusian Embassy in Qatar, which now includes more than 200 people. We post the most up-to-date and important information about what is happening in the country,” Aleksei Malafei said.
According to him, people are calling and are understandably worried. “We are trying to reassure them and recommend that they stay in their hotels. The Qatari authorities are giving the same recommendation,” he noted.
The head of the diplomatic mission said that Qatar’s airspace is currently closed, and the issue of arranging departures for Belarusian citizens is being worked on.
“We are resolving together with Belavia, with tour operators, and with the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry how tourists who are here and were scheduled to fly home tomorrow on a charter flight to Minsk after their holiday will be able to return,” Aleksei Malafei said.
As it was previously reported, consular services of Belarusian foreign missions in Israel, Iran, Qatar, and the UAE are providing necessary assistance to citizens affected by the escalation of the conflict.
