A reminder this was conflict was started by US/Israel and one of the first things struck was an Iranian school.
To see government’s trying to frame it as Iran being the aggressor here is appalling.
Edit: I see the people denying reality are out in force with the downvotes.
Whilst the statement appears measured, I am deeply concerned about any involvement in this conflict. I completely agree that we can take defensive measures to prevent being hit but I worry how far the UK will take this as justification to get involved in striking Iran.
The last thing Europe needs is a further destabilised Middle East and more refugees contributing to the already difficult migrant situation we have now (because of course Trump won’t be accepting any refugees for sure).
Trump now wants NATO to join his party? Basically NO! We should stay well away from this and countries should make it quite clear to all parties that we will remain neutral.
What about the indiscriminate attack by the US on the girls school in Iran, killing 150+ school girls? Any statement on that?
The thread got removed for some reason, but the confirmation that our base in Cyprus was hit by an Iranian missile changes the maths on all of this.
Starmer is a lawyer. He, and presumably the attorney general agreed, didn’t believe that the US had made the legal case for strikes on Iran, and so Britain declined to take part.
Now both British facilities, and those of some strategic allies, have been attacked, the legal case for an international response is much stronger.
And hence both ourselves, France and Germany are now willing to help put the Iranian threat to bed.
The situation today is dramatically different to 24 hours ago, and that’s due to the scattergun nature of the Iranian response. They’ve written their own suicide note here.
Yeah. This is still worrying. The bad men are clearly bad, but we got nothing but bad men out here today.
I would be deeply concerned if we involve ourselves any further than defense of our own assets in the area. The other side being bad men does not produce a valid casus belli. We all know this. Not putting boots on the ground doesnt make this not a war
Its not about picking sides, i could not in good conscience align myself with either and I simply have no business dictating how other countries run. How is this even hard? Intervention pretty much always blows up. I dont know how we solve the monster the US has become, but i want nothing to do with it
I don’t get it. Yes the Ayatollah and the IRGC suck ass, but bombing is a huge risk and we just immediately take the US’s side and don’t condemn their indiscriminate bombing. There’s no guarantee that we’ll see regime change, and it feels like we just risk Iran falling into disarray like every other country the US has meddled with over the past half-century.
I feels like none of this would’ve happened if Israel and the USA hadn’t started an illegal war in the middle of negotiations with Iran. Like, I feel like Iran wouldn’t be bombing anyone anywhere if not for that.
I dunno though. Im no geopolitics expert
We’ve done, exactly what we should do.
We shouldn’t be involved in another illegal war.
France, Germany and the UK have issued a statement condemning Iran’s “disproportionate” response. I want to know what they think is a “proportionate” response when invaders assassinate your head of state and civilian leaders in an explicit campaign to destroy your government.
It’s obviously not Iraq era jingoism but this is very much the rules based order thoroughly dead.
Iran was making progress on a nuclear deal, but trump and Bibi wanted a forever war. We shouldn’t be putting Brits at risk because of 2 old mens fantasies.
Yesterday Starmer being the adult in the room and stepping back was generally a good move, and contrasted hard with reforms cheering on of trumps folding to hawks.
But then now allowing the yanks to use our bases and potentially using RAF planes to strike Iranian military facilities? In practical terms we are now at war, just pussyfooting around saying that.
If you don’t bomb little kids this shit tends not to happen
what the f? are they appalled with the illegal strikes by israel and us?
I’m just looking forward to this sub’s mental gymnastics when the Greenland annexation begins
The bullies playing the victim card, how ridiculous.
🤣
Why not address the elephant in the room?
It’s the israel and USA who attacked Iran, not the other way around.
If only they had the same balls to save food producers.
Indiscriminate? That gave me the first laugh of the day.
Iran has done nothing but be attacked by ‘western’ actors (including and specifically Israel) since the 1950s. If the ‘west’ didn’t want to be attacked, they shouldn’t have attacked first.
This will be worse than Iraq as there is no one trying to stop the USA and its minions from destroying and pillaging this country.
So the indiscriminate attacks on Iran are OK, somehow?
American adventurism. Destabilise. Create vacuum, population displacement, refugees, rail against European cultural erosion, promote right wing parties. Rinse repeat.
Politicians don’t like refugees but sure love creating more of them.
This is pathetic. Iran’s attacks are hardly indiscriminate. They attacked countries hosting bases supporting the Americans. Within hours of starmer announcing the Americans can use our bases ‘for defensive action against Iran’ Cyprus is fucking bombed. It’s entirely predictable.
The failure to explicitly denounce the attacks and refuse any support has directly led to UK assets and personnel being harmed.
Are we just going to get dragged into this. ” We don’t like it but Iran is very mad and we have to support our friends” what fucking friends? The one you had to talk out of invading Greenland? What a load of old shit.
Any statement on the indiscriminate attack on Iran in the first place?
