Arrived in the dark to this wall of lens. Shoulder to with barely enough room to poke my little iPhone through. And nobody was budging an inch until they got there shot. But the best part was, moments after sunrise they collectively ‘got’ their shot and all left. Which left a few of us stragglers to enjoy the whole arch at our pleasure.

As a photographer I can understand why they came early and took place to get their shot.
However they look too close to get something good except they hide the good shots for others a bit in the background.
    FOMO probably

Is this like a once a month/year thing? Why are there so many people getting the same picture lol

This irritates some people but it goes both ways and ultimately it’s everyone’s park. Some folks may show up and find a wall of photographers annoying, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been set up to shoot something in nature and one or two people won’t recognize that perhaps you just want 30 seconds without other humans in the frame. Even more galling when they are in spaces they are clearly not supposed to be, like climbing barriers at Sol Duc Falls and occupying the background of 50 people’s shots.

It’s weirdly symbiotic. That wall of photographers and their collective output over time is what put that location on most people’s radar and inspired them to visit at sunrise.

  5. Geez, all that just to take a photograph that has been made a gazillion times before.
I’ll bet this place was not at all so busy before the advent of social media.

As a landscape photographer I avoid “iconic” locations like this like the plague
