  1. Worth it to make sure that Iranians living in Iran no longer need to suffer under the persecution of their government.

    Damn.
That’s a decent amount of people stuck.

Have to wonder how long this will go on for, and also what alternate routes they can rake home…

We will all pay a small price for this war, whether that be flight disruptions, fuel and cost of living price increases or general anxiety and uncertainty.

Every Australians will suffer a little bit more due to this war.

  4. It’s going to be expensive for the 11 000 travellers stuck in middle eastern airports; acts of war mean no travel insurance payouts. And inconvenient and uncomfortable too, but the risk of flying them out is probably greater than the risk of leaving them where they are.

There have been clear warnings. Both official and just from looking at what US was doing. I had my flight booked to EU via Dubai which I cancelled 3 weeks ago and instead going through Asia.

  6. Those Gulf states are going to be very hard hit economically for quite some time, once the missiles have started flying, I don’t know how long it takes for these places to be seen as safe destinations or transit points again.

Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Etihad all won’t be flying for a while, and the planes that are outside of Middle Eastern airspace will be stuck wherever they currently are, or moved to somewhere where they’ll be grounded until the airspace opens up again. Which could be months or possibly years.

Air fares will certainly go up due to higher fuel costs and the loss of routes through the ME.

Just another reason (on top of the many that already exist) to not fly through the middle east.

The first oil tanker just got hit in the Middle East and ship operators are stopping their ships from going into the Persian Gulf. 30 days of fuel left in Australia and a big thank you to Scotty for placing our emergency fuel storage in the USA. Nothing about that is good and the high prices will be the least of our worries.

  10. Maybe the Australian government can organise some sort of civilian evacuation via ship through an open port nearby?

  11. We’ve got family here that are trying to get back to the UK. Airlines have been less than useful. Absolute clusterfuck

  12. Fuck Trump. I have had enough of the US. They throw their weight around all over this planet thinking they are the best goddamn thing since humans came into existence. They are the terrorists.

Did Trump really believe he was going to have this over and done in one wave of attacks?! My 3 year old toddler has more brain power than that deranged old man.

Iran have been no threat to western nations – they haven’t started any wars with us, they haven’t bombed us, they have existed quietly in the background.

Going off trumps and Israel’s logic they should be bombing North Korea too and Russia and China because they all apparently pose high levels of threat to the west.

They had ample opportunity to get out or not go

It was pretty obvious what was happening as of 1 month ago

I was booked to fly home from Europe yesterday with Qatar airways.

I didn’t receive any information from them aside from a generic email about flight disruptions. All their customer service lines were down. But watching the news on Saturday I made the uneasy decision to pay out of pocket ($1000) for a direct flight to Jakarta that is leaving today.

The same flight is now $4000 so feeling happy in that choice and nervous that something else will go wrong.

Anxiety inducing, but very glad to be safe and not stuck somewhere that is actively being bombed. Perhaps we take the ability to zoom around the world too much for granted.

How many of those 115k are on Centrelink and “reside” there. Only come home on a charter flight when things explode
