Latvian biathlete Rihards Lozbers won a silver medal in the 7.5-kilometer sprint at the World Youth Championships in Germany on Tuesday, where athletes up to 19 years old compete.
Three shooting errors did not prevent Lozbers from finishing on the podium, and he earned his third medal of the championship.
The winner was Slovakian Markus Sklenarik, who shot flawlessly, beating 16-year-old Lozbers by 19.0 seconds. Lozber, by far the fastest skier, missed twice in the prone position and also had one penalty lap after shooting standing, but still managed to claim second place on the podium. Germany’s Hannes Lipfert secured the bronze medal.
Latvia was also represented in the sprint among 117 participants by Rūdolfs Raudziņš, who finished 25th, Ernests Solovyovs (72nd) and Rainers Krišmanis (79th).
