“I do not work in Lithuania, I do not hold any position in Lithuania. I do not think I should be actively commenting on anything,” Blinkevičiūtė said in an interview with Delfi, her first in more than a year.
“I have not really delved into all the decisions that are being made. But I have always supported and will always support the Social Democratic Party and its decisions,” she said.
Before the 2024 parliamentary election, Blinkevičiūtė, then leader of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), pledged that if her party won, she would head the government.
However, after the LSDP won the vote, she announced that she would not seek the post of prime minister. Fellow Social Democrat Gintautas Paluckas was subsequently appointed prime minister. He held the post for less than a year, resigning in July 2025 amid reports about his past business ties.
Blinkevičiūtė, who had led the LSDP since 2021, largely disappeared from public view after the parliamentary election and did not seek to remain party leader.
The Social Democrats, currently led by interim chair Mindaugas Sinkevičius, are due to elect a new leader for a two-year term in May.
