On Tuesday, March 3rd, in Saulkrasti municipality, in the Skulte port aquatorium, rapidly changing wind directions caused drifting ice to push a pilot boat working in the port out of the channel.

It was pushed onto a shoal, and the ice mass weighed it down considerably, so the ship’s crew was evacuated, according to the Saulkrasti Municipality.

For safety reasons, the ship’s crew of five people was evacuated by a National Armed Forces helicopter.

At 2:35 a.m., the rescue operation was completed, and the crew was brought ashore. The responsible services have been informed of the incident, and the situation is under control, according to the municipality.
