POLAND, OH- Poland punched its ticket to the district championship with a gritty 40-32 win over Cardinal Mooney on Thursday night in an OHSAA Division V District Semifinal. In a defensive battle where every bucket mattered, the Bulldogs made just enough plays down the stretch to keep the Cardinals at arm’s length.
Poland leaned on a balanced scoring effort to get the job done. Nick Nittoli led the way with 13 points, while Vito Komara and Maddox Purins each chipped in 9. Carmine Tukalo added 6 to round out the Bulldogs’ scoring as Poland controlled the tempo and locked things down defensively in the second half.
Cardinal Mooney was paced by Dante Turner, who poured in 16 points to lead all scorers. Kingston Powell added 6, while Grayson Dubas finished with 5 and Kaden Reese contributed 4 for the Cardinals.
With the win, Poland moves on to the Division V District Championship, now one step away from punching a regional ticket.
