Crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Otis Lee Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. on March 4 after receiving a report of a trailer fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames visible from multiple sides of the structure, with the fire rapidly spreading throughout the trailer, according to the department. Crews deployed hose lines from the first arriving engine and began an interior attack.
Firefighters later transitioned to a defensive attack after structural instability and collapse occurred inside the trailer.
Crews remained on scene for about two hours to bring the fire under control and extinguish hot spots. The trailer was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
After speaking with the property owner, officials determined the fire began while leaves were being burned in the yard. The fire spread out of control and eventually ignited the trailer, the department said.
North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department and Dixie Electric Power Association also responded to assist.
The Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department reminded residents that outdoor burning can quickly become dangerous, especially during dry or windy conditions. Officials urged residents to keep burn piles a safe distance from structures and to have a water source or other means of controlling the fire available before starting an outdoor burn.
