Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will launch three daily flights on the Rīga-Copenhagen route from March 8th, significantly increasing the frequency and capacity of flights between the two capitals, RIX Riga Airport has announced.

The airport stated that the new flights will strengthen Riga Airport’s connectivity with one of the most important aviation hubs in Northern Europe – Copenhagen Airport – and will open up wider opportunities for long-distance flights.

SAS’s offer to Copenhagen, which is already one of Riga Airport’s most popular destinations, means a significant increase in capacity and competition on this route, the airport explained. This will allow passengers to plan their trips more flexibly and provide more convenient transfer options to long-haul flights of SAS and other airlines.

Laila Odiņa, Chairwoman of the Board of Riga Airport, said: “Additional flights to Copenhagen mean even better connectivity for our passengers and wider choices for both business and leisure travelers. Copenhagen Airport is one of the most important aviation hubs in Northern Europe, and greater capacity in this direction strengthens Riga Airport’s role as the Baltic aviation hub. Competition on the route always means benefits for passengers: more flights, more flexible schedules and more competitive prices.”

SAS’s return to Riga Airport with flights to Copenhagen marks a new stage in the airline’s presence in Riga. The airline began regular flights to Riga Airport in 1990, but discontinued them in 2008.
