This infographic shows the scale-up that 36 carbon-saving strategies need to achieve the same climate impact. One "wedge" of mitigation means cutting global emissions by 4% (30 billion tonnes of carbon emissions avoided over 30 years).

Interesting graphic, though it doesn’t explain what a “Wedge” is. I assume the website will make that more clear.
Main caveat I see, is that the underlying mitigation options are not really up to date with the latest knowledge on transformation pathways. This is most obvious because Coal with CCS and Direct Air Capture are not considered cost effective or superior to alternatives. I would also doubt that nuclear can scale up quickly and cheaply enough to be a good mitigation option and lastly large battery storage is missing completely.
Adding trees to cropland and pastures would be great outside the tropics too. It would not only help with carbon capture, but also with soil fertility and biodiversity.
The usual reminder that just 57 companies produce 87% of greenhouse gases and actively shift the responsibility on general population
Doesn’t include population reduction, interestingly.
Your text that accompanies your graphic explains a wedge, but for this to be at all useful to a layperson, that needs to be better articulated in the graphic.
I’ll do all this when the 1% and politicians and foreign countries start. Otherwise, I’ll just live my life. Good luck tho
Greenwashing! This takes no account of the trillion tons of CO2 that have already been released into the atmosphere and are causing global climate change and will continue to do so for decades.
Even if the world went 100% carbon neutral today, we will keep blowing through equilibrium tipping points and the atmosphere will continue to warm. Life in 25 years is going to look radically different to today.
I swear at least half of the posts here whining about the 1% are bots trying to get people to do nothing to tackle climate change. Yes the ultra wealthy need to do more, a lot more, but pretty much everyone in rich countries needs to do more, and one of the cheapest and easiest ways to do more is to just consume less.
Also hint, corporations would much prefer you to whinge about them online while you continue to consume their most profitable products than just reducing your consumption.
If conversion to electric cars is 4 wedges, more use of public transport should be way more than 1 wedge.
6% solar, 6% wind but 25% gas?! LMAO
