    Detailed information is available here.

On March 6th, airBaltic is operating the first two flights from Dubai to Riga,  organized at the behest of the Latvian government. More than eight hundred Latvian nationals are currently in the Middle East region, so not all persons can be evacuated immediately.

In cooperation with the Member States of the European Union, the Foreign Ministry is also looking for opportunities to leave for those nationals who are in other countries of the Middle East region, for example, in Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

“As the security situation in the region is unstable, we strongly urge citizens to follow the announcements of local official media regarding changes in the security situation, as well as to follow the instructions of local authorities,” said the Ministry.

Airspace over the Middle Eastern countries, with the exception of Oman, Jordan and, with interruptions, Saudi Arabia, remains closed, and air alerts are regularly issued, as a result of American-Israeli attacks on Iran and retaliatory missile strikes by Iran itself.

According to information provided tot he Latvian Foreign Ministry by Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports, they are currently allowed to operate a limited number of flights, and flight schedules may be adjusted in accordance with the development of the security situation. Travellers are urged not to go to airports unless the airline has individually confirmed a specific departure time.

Currently, people can travel by land from Israel to Egypt via the Taba border crossing. From Taba Airport, it is possible to travel to several European countries using airlines there.

It is also possible to travel by land from Israel to Jordan via the Aqaba border crossing. From Aqaba Airport, Arkia has started flights to Athens. Information on the availability of air tickets is available on the airline websites.

It is possible that a limited number of flights from Ben Gurion Airport to several European cities will resume over the weekend. The flights will be operated by several Israeli airlines.

Latvians currently in the Middle East region are invited to familiarize themselves with the travel warnings published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In an emergency situation, it is possible to contact the 24-hour duty officer of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by phone: +371 26337711 or e-mail:  [email protected] .
