This is so tragic and senseless. The kids are not alright these days.

So he successfully saved the boy.

What a terrible and tragic way to die and what a dog act to follow and attack him as he tried to alight the original victim to safety.

  3. They should start surgically castrating teens causing these issues, two strikes and they’re out kinda deal. They can still be placed into the revolving door prison system or have a chance of fixing their lives, but the generational trauma stops there, maybe calm them down a bit too.

Murdered in broad daylight for picking up a teenager and walking him away to safety. Incredibly brave 22 year old man, RIP

Guarantee all, if not all, of the culprits were either out on bail and/or have received extremely lenient sentences for prior violent crimes.

This poor mans blood is on the hands of the magistrates, judges, lawmakers and politicians that directly and indirectly enable this behaviour and also the people here on Reddit who like to downplay and talk about youth and gang crime in Melbourne being some big Murdoch media conspiracy theory or have even a speck of sympathy for these scumbags based on their upbringing etc.

Adult crime, adult time came into effect

Also terrible given people get enough flak about not stepping in or being a good Samaritan and then stuff like this happens

  7. this needs to get more attention, what the fuck. respect to the Samaritan, died while trying to protect someone he did not even know. what’s Melbourne becoming? do we have to fear getting robbed or killed in broad daylight these days?

I think we should seriously consider introducing “Three Strikes, You’re Out” laws to get more violent criminals off the streets, what a terrible tragedy this is.

Unbelievable oh my fucking good. What a tragedy. Hope the offenders rot in jail for the rest of their lives.

“She said protective services officers (PSOs) patrolled the station from 6pm to 2am each day, which would continue to be the case.”

So only a small comment about why PSOs weren’t there. No mention of reviewing PSO deployment times.
They’ve never once made me feeler safer, lurking around undertrained carrying guns, but this would’ve been the one time they would’ve actually been useful. They could’ve used their fancy tasers.

In before the Labor bots tell us that putting people in jail makes us less safe.

Fourth homicide this week. It’s absolutely wild statistic and not even the most violent homicide.

  13. Isn’t this why we have PSO’s? Seems like on Upfield line they are at most stations in the evening, 4 or more generally just having a chat with not much going on. Of course in this situation time when you actually need them to be somewhere, unfortunately they are not.

Probably they have prevented such occurrences from happening before. But just not this time.

Yep and all of the cowards that attacked and killed him were known  to police, I guess they’ll be released on bail in a week.

This is why I don’t love it when someone posts about a neighbour dispute or bad behaviour in public and somebody always suggests “why don’t you just go and talk to them?”. Because people are unpredictable. Because if someone is already breaking society’s rules by being a loud and obnoxious neighbour or having a go at someone on public transport, it may not be safe for you to intervene.

I intervened as a good Samaritan once in a case of racist abuse on public transport and I was spat on. In the face. I have severe OCD, I was scrubbing my face until it bled for an hour after that. It certainly affected my willingness to step in and play good Samaritan in future. Incidents like this give me the same feeling of “is it really worth it?”, as awful as that sounds.

I hope the ghost of that young man haunts them for the remainder of their miserable lives.

  17. Ahh good old Victorian justice system at work. What a joke. Poor guy doing the right thing and paid the ultimate price at the hands of some coward thugs.

Machete, all offenders known to police, no description of the offenders. How curious.

This is awful. I hate that feeling, being on PT and feeling something might kick off, and knowing that i either ignore it and feel ashamed and someone gets hurt, I somehow punch someone who is most likely a kid/ homesless person/ substance addicted, or I jump in and I’m the one beaten or worse.
There’s not many decent outcomes to be had. I miss having staffed stations and trains.

  20. Wow fake news machine in over drive. There’s no way a single machete still exists in Victoria after we spent all that money on those boxes.

Man did the right thing and paid the price. Hero.

This state needs some radical fight against extreme youth crime. For this reason alone, Labor must go.

    >Homicide Squad detectives have since arrested a 16-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys, and an 18-year-old man.

    >Acting Inspector L’Estrange said one of the alleged offenders was in hospital under police guard. The other three remain in policy custody and are being interviewed.

    >All four were known to police.

    >The 14-year-old boy who was being attacked suffered some facial injuries, and is believed to have a broken nose. He was not stabbed, and has since been discharged from hospital.

    >”He’s pretty shaken up, as you would imagine,” Acting Inspector L’Estrange said.

This is the kind of senseless tragedy that could have been prevented if we had adult crime adult time laws so society can be protected from dangerous, unpredictable psychopaths like these.

  24. New_Friend4023 on

Wow, i think it’s telling that they didn’t provide any physical descriptions of the offenders. I understand not wanting to create racial hatred but still..
