    1. *We want to see the phase-out of nuclear energy, which is unsafe*

      Wrong

*and much more expensive than renewables. The development of nuclear power stations is too slow given the pace of action we need on climate.*

      Wrong.

*They also create unmanageable quantities of radioactive waste and are inextricably linked with the production of nuclear weapons.*

      Wrong.

    2. Shot_Leopard_7657 on

Unilaterally getting rid of our nuclear weapons is an instant vote loser for me regardless of anything else in the manifesto. There’s nothing that even the Tories have done in the past few decades that would be as terrible as that.

    3. Garbage. Does it clarify their stance on the UK nuking itself (per that disastrous interview the other day).

    4. Boris Johnson introduced target dates for Net Zero which were far too ambitious, these nutters want to go further. They are making policy based on outdated thinking

I have seen then in two debates, in one their leader said something about the UK nuking itself. In the other, a senior figure said they were confident there would not need to be “rationing” soon if they were elected.

      Hard pass

    5. Nut jobs.
Seriously, this party is a joke and makes a mockery of environmentalism.

    6. D0wnInAlbion on

Anybody opposed to nuclear energy isn’t serious about trying to halt climate change.

    7. Nuclear_Wasteman on

Greens: ‘Climate change will kill us all, let’s dismantle our socio-economic system to prevent it!’
      ‘How about nuclear power?’
Greens: ‘I don’t want nuclear power, I want to dismantle our socio-economic system.’

    8. Boorish_Bear on

Usual unrealistic and poorly thought-through crap except this time it’s even crapper. Their approach to nuclear energy and removing our nuclear threat continues to be idiotic.

I was also shocked to read about their approach to elective cesareans the other day: https://inews.co.uk/opinion/green-party-stick-politics-stay-away-uterus-3095204

Knowing a number of women that have had traumatic, life-threatening natural births it is utterly remarkable that they would make more natural births a policy position – it should be a decision the mother and her healthcare professional make in private based on that individuals personal circumstances and history.

    9. Not really much appealing on their manifesto, some alarming and shocking things, very disturbing party. Keep well away from what I can only describe as ‘nutters’.

    10. I vaguely toyed with the idea of reluctantly voting Green because of my contempt for Starmer, Reeves, Streeting and co, but my local Green candidate has uploaded five different crying selfies, including one crying for Palestine. It’s just impossible to take them seriously as a party.

    11. >”Tax rises will only target the super wealthy”

Scrapping the upper earnings cap for NI would be a 6% tax rise for anyone earning over £58,000 per year. Hardly “super wealthy”, it’s yet another tax rise against the middle class, who already bear the vast majority of the tax burden, and who have already been subject to years of stealth tax rises due to inflation while the tax brackets have remained the same.

    12. _TLDR_Swinton on

Wake me up when they’re not an environmental version of the Monster Raving Loony Party.

    13. Apart from not supporting nuclear, their migration policy will put a lot of people off as it is pretty extreme.

They changed their site and have replaced the “Policy” page with the manifesto page.

Their migration page used to be this a few days ago

      https://web.archive.org/web/20240601203114/https://policy.greenparty.org.uk/policy/migration/

      And has things like

      > MG100 The Green Party wants to see a world without borders, until this happens the Green Party will implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration where people can move if they wish to do so.
      >
      > MG101 The Green Party believes that migration is not a criminal offence under any circumstances.
      >
      > MG200 The Green Party seeks to establish a system that recognises that all migrants are treated as citizens in waiting

      Now it just says this

      https://greenparty.org.uk/about/our-manifesto/a-fairer-greener-welcome/

It is pretty much as close to open borders as you can get and I think even people who are pro immigration are not this extreme.

    14. CuteAnimalFans on

I tell you what, why don’t I take that ’cause I’m going to the loo in a minute and I can have a look at it and then I can wipe my fucking arse on it!

    15. wombatking888 on

Plus their Scottish equivalent is actively working towards the end of the United Kingdom, and they’re fine with that.

    16. I like that two parties (Green and Liberal Democrats) have expressly proposed to review the drug laws and policies. I also appreciate the four-day working week proposal and the various pro-nature stances of the Green Party. However, all other points, including those on energy, are nonsensical. Nuclear is a critical source of energy. Moreover, quite frankly, the Green Party seems unable to distinguish between national and international policies, even at the local level (see the Leeds example), and I do not want anyone with those ideas in power. Islamists should stay out of politics and be appropriately deterred from joining; the Green Party appears to be doing the opposite. I wonder how they intend to reconcile their LGBT views with the tolerance of Islam.

In any case, as an Italian immigrant, I will not be able to vote. May left-wing parties be elected this time, even though, in my view, Labour does not seem to be too great.

    17. LostInTheVoid_ on

The Greens once again show they are not a serious party. Vote Lib Dem instead if you want something different too Labour. The LD at least have some policies that are actually thought out and might have merit to help the country environmentally and socially. Vote green if you’re uniformed and buy into the shite they peddle. Not a true green party at all.

    18. cantproveimabottom on

Very clear that the manifesto website has been designed to be as difficult to navigate as possible since their policies on nuclear energy and defence are psycho

    19. BurntTeaLeaves_ on

No to nuclear power, increasing taxes for £50k earners because they’re ‘rich’ apparently, trying to reduce c-sections in spite of the damning ockenden review showing the consequences of pushing “natural birth” at all costs, and that religious nutter they just elected in Leeds? Oh and that bizarre comment recently about not bothering spending money on roads because only rich white men use them?  I think I’ll pass Greens

    20. ImmortalState on

What a shame , green could have come in swinging but this is what they made…

    21. GottaBeeJoking on

      > A maximum 10:1 pay ratio

      Lol. Just completely unserious.

Your software company CEO can earn £500k but only if he fires everyone earning less than £50k and contracts out all the security, IT, HR, etc to external companies. Ok, that’s what he’ll do then.

Hospital porters make about 12k. So the Chief Medical Officer can’t be paid more than £120k. Why would he do the job when he can earn the same as an experienced GP?

Any company can only take on an apprentice at a low wage if the CEO agrees to a pay cut. Not going to be a lot of apprenticeships then are there?

Given that they also say that they want a £15 minimum wage. They may as well just say that the maximum hourly wage is £150, or put 90% tax on anything over that.

    22. thefinaltoblerone on

      1. Against nuclear energy and weapons (no funnily enough I don’t want the weapons used).

      2. Tax hike on the really rich (yay) and not so rich (oh).

      3. Strange views on migration. Wanting to limit it is not the same as advocating xenophobia.

Yeah no, Greens are out of touch

    23. > Increase annual public subsidies for rail and bus travel to £10bn by the end of the next Parliament, with free bus travel for under-18s.

      > Invest in an additional £19bn over five years to improve public transport, support electrification and create new cycleways and footpaths.

      > Bring the railways back into public ownership.

      > Give local authorities control over and funding for improved bus services.

      > An increase in school funding of £8bn, to include £2bn for a pay uplift for teachers.

      > Supporting every higher education student, with the restoration of grants and the end of tuition fees.

      > Ending high-stakes testing at primary and secondary schools and abolishing OFSTED.

All sound pretty good to me. But no, we’re going to hand up on that nuclear thing aren’t we?

Conservatives and Labour have set the ball rolling on 1 Nuclear Power station in the last 30 years.

Hinkley C was announced in 2010, but won’t be ready until 2029-2031. The other 7 announced haven’t even got that far.

The last power station to actually come online was Sizewell B in 1995. NOTHING has happened since then.

Sure, disagree with the Green stance on it if you like, but whilst you do that think really hard about whether you think the _other_ two parties are actually doing anything much in this space.

    24. Aflyingmongoose on

It’s a mixed bag. I love a lot of their pledges, and hate several others.

    25. WolfColaCo2020 on

If this is what they’re like now, 5 years down the line when the Momentum lot ostensibly leaving Labour to the Greens start influencing policy… eesh

    26. BroodLord1962 on

Might as well be called, ‘No Hope, No Change.’ Because they aren’t going to win. Love how the smaller parties can promise the world knowing they won’t have to do any of it.

Can’t believe they want to raise NI for people earning £55k, as if £55k makes you rich.

    27. They’re fucking mental with a little dusting of some sensible okayish policies.

    28. InSilenceLikeLasagna on

Greens are a party I wish I could support but their manifesto is so half baked it makes it difficult to essentially waste a vote on them

    29. It’s like a list of “nice to haves” – are they aware we are in £2trillion pounds worth of debt and have to create a functioning economy

    30. Halforthechump on

Nuclear power is very expensive but in terms of pollution it’s by far the least polluting over their lifetime. If your sole concern is pollution then it’s a no brainer to commission ten and damn the cost. The issue is that the uk creates absolutely negligible pollution (even per capita) and already has a pretty good grid. We aren’t the problem and don’t need to be the solution. China? They fucking need nuclear plants, so does America, because they’re actively fucking up their own countries with pollution.

The problem with the greens isn’t their stance on nuclear energy, it’s that they’re considered weirdos. They’ll get protest votes and the peculiar left wing voters who hate mainstream politics but aren’t communists but nothing substantial.

    31. Prior_Bodybuilder719 on

Has anyone actually read the manifesto?

Literally one of the most insane things I have ever read.

      100s of billions in spending.
Even more Taxation on fuel for cars.
A Taxation system that would result in all the wealth leaving the uk making everyone poorer.
A maximum 10:1 pay ratio for all private- and public-sector organisations- so basically massive state involvement in private companies.
An increase in the minimum wage to £15 an hour, no matter your age, with the costs to small businesses offset by reducing their National Insurance payments- so there goes millions of jobs for young people because now they could demand 30k to serve fries?

Oh and self identification- whatever that has to do with Green

    32. CensorTheologiae on

I like pretty much everything I see here. A few minor quibbles, but it all looks focused on improving ordinary living in the UK, which is what we desperately need.

Can’t understand all the hopium-based waffling about nuclear. I want improvements now, not in another 15 or 20 years’ time. If I wanted promises of “jam tomorrow”, there’s the Tories for that.

    33. Geek-Of-Nature on

I have always wanted to vote for the Greens because I’m passionate about the environment, climate and nature. I even thought they’d continue to grow ever bigger and more prominent as global warming and such issues became even more serious.

But my word, for every honourable idea they have, they have five batshit insane plans that just don’t hold up to any sort of logic or scrutiny.

    34. How can this party claim to be “Green” when they are so against nuclear which is proven to be the best way forward.

      I don’t fucking get it

    35. MrPuddington2 on

The green party is a weird mixture of progressive types, anti-science romantics, and NIMBYs. Part of it is interesting, part of it is off-putting.

Nuclear energy is unsafe? It’s probably one of the safest energy sources currently.

Nuclear waste? This isn’t the simpsons, it isn’t barrels of sludge, it’s just depleted rods, which are sealed and buried. Unimaginable amounts? They know the rods last years before needing replacing. The waste generated is next to nothing.
