If you host American forward operating bases, CIA watch stations, cooperatively train special forces with the United States, and install US-made weapons platforms across the border from Iran – then you can’t call yourself a “non-participant”

For clarity I am agnostic on this intervention. The regime was shit so it’s possible the end result of all this is positive but this particular move feels stage managed to be able to assist America without saying we are assisting America. Setting up air defence while missiles fly only one way overhead.
Helping defend people in the Gulf states is ok. Although we famously have almost no air defence in the ADF comprehensive multilayered systems are planned. Currently it will have to be RAAF aircraft, RAN ships or infantry with manpads. We did send some Slinger anti-drone turrets to Ukraine.
The only involvement we should have in this clusterfuck, if any at all, is to safeguard civilian shipping and keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

Iran has every right to attack US military installations based in the Gulf as these bases are one of the sources of attacks on Iran, either as strike bases, logistics hubs or intel and radar installations. If the US tries to shelter soldiers off base then those are also legitimate targets. The same would be true for the US if the shoe was on the other foot. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander! As for Iranian attacks on energy infrastructure in the Gulf, that is the pressure point they have on the US and the US would also be attacking those if the shoe was in the other foot. We should stay out of this but our craven establishment will do anything the US wants.
Fuck sending military aid to anyone in the region, every bomb detonated from either side is bringing us closer to the point of no return for a habitable earth.
