Latvia has the highest share of women among scientists and engineers in the EU

    In 2024, women made up 50.9% of all scientists and engineers. The next highest figures were recorded in Denmark (48.8%), Estonia (47.9%), and Spain (47.6%).

    Overall in the EU, women represent 40.5% of the workforce among scientists and engineers. The data shows that the number of women in these professions in the EU continues to grow — from 3.4 million in 2008 to 7.9 million in 2024.

    The share of women is higher in high-tech services and the service sector, while it is lower in industry.
