Time to go sovereign. Nuclear power, renewable energy & North sea until the other stuff is set up

  2. Mountain_Ad_8525 on

Are we prepared for anything at any point ever or are we just in a constant state of emergency?

  3. AncientStaff6602 on

This is pretty normal though isn’t it?

If I recall back when prices spiked well over 600p/therm, stories broke out how the UK sold off most of its storage capabilities way back in the day?

Edit: I mean this just highlights how this country needs to make better effort at becoming energy self sufficient through a variety of sources

sure and I’m guessing in two days time it’ll suddenly become a week then once again another 3 days honestly does anyone remember when the Ukraine war started and all the papers/new was bleat about how totally screwed we were about how its an apocalypse and we should just give up…this constant doomer bullshit gets so old i cant be the only person who feels like this?

Amazing. Rich and powerful people screwing the rest of us over. Again.

Trump starts a war with Iran to distract from the Epstein files, and risk igniting WWIII, he doesn’t care about the downstream effects to the rest of the world and Farage thinks we should celebrate him?

It’s unnecessary expensive to stockpile gas supplies when we can extract whats needed from flows.

  8. It’s hard to call this a “positive” really, but I guess the one good thing to come out of all this needless and stupid death and destruction would be a reignited global push towards renewables and energy independence. As amazing as that might be, it’s absolutely not worth all the carnage that’s unfolding, or the pain we’d all feel in the short term

    Thanks US/Israel 👍

When are we going to condemn and cut ties with these war mongering rogue states?

Not entirely the case as most of our supply is continuously piped from UK & Norwegian waters, so it’s never really stored.

As the article, but not the headline states.

  11. Yeh Centrica shut our biggest storage facility down in 2017 and the Conservatives did sweet f all to stop it, build a new one or find a solution, its repeatedly coming up as an issue for us.

  12. When the 2022 energy crisis occurred, it rocked our economy hard. People might forget, but half of the Truss collapse was down to incredibly costly energy rebates/caps. 4 years later, in an uncertain World, the government have learned nothing and still treat 30 years as an appropriate timeline for infrastructure projects while relying on “just in time” receipt of vital resources.

Call me crazy but I suspect the Trump regime felt more comfortable attacking Iran now it has access to Venezuelan oil. I know the US has access to some domestic supply but it does also import oil, having access to a supply not from the Middle East or Russia means it will not suffer like Europe will from this. Meanwhile, Trump has also allowed India to buy Russian oil again, so it is no longer under an embargo Trump had set up as part of a recent trade agreement with India. Again, I could be cray but it does seem like Trump is showing disdain for Europe with this war an could use it as an excuse to paint us as weak and dependent on other nations to get by.

  14. low stocks is normal. We build stocks during the summer and draw them down over the winter. Disruption to the supply is an issue though…

I love it when there is relative world peace and instead of war, we have corrupt politicians, billionaires, and countries unprepared for the slightest change in world politics and stability.

  16. Objective_Ticket on

If only we hadn’t allowed the gas companies to decommission their gas storage areas without replacing them.

  17. Alarmist headline which the article then goes on to disprove. God I hate journalism

  18. We should have never sold off the rights to our north sea oil and gas. Time to renationalise all industries, transportation, water, energy, public services etc.

  19. BathFullOfDucks on

Reminder that Macquarie group, who took 7 billion pounds out of thames water leaving it in massive debt, now own the entire UK natural gas network.

    Christ.

    Thanks AGAIN Thatcher.

    Remember when we had storage?

    Know what we do know?

We sell it to France (at cost) who store it *for us* who sell it back to us, at a *premium*

    God I fucking hate Thatcher.

  21. ash_ninetyone on

Gee its almost as if getting rid of all the gas holders and privatising the NGSS was a bad thing

I don’t believe it will be as drastic as the headline suggests, but we have no infrastructure to deal with any protracted conflict.

  22. Sure love that we didn’t decide to get energy independence with nuclear and renewables, that would certainly have been a blunder

  23. Shockwavepulsar on

It’s a good thing we’re heading into spring I suppose. Little wins and all that.

  24. amore_pomfritte on

You’d think the Government would have got the hang of it by now. By that I mean all Governments since Thatcher.

  25. spaffedupthewall on

This is why it makes no sense for Norway to be reducing oil and gas production

  26. Comfortable_Basil816 on

Tories privatized and neglected our natural gas infrastructure + storage.

    Chickens coming home to roost

  27. HorrorAccomplished78 on

Eighty percent of UKs energy in several months last year was by sustainable generation, wind, solar panels and nuclear.

  28. MintyFresh668 on

Not true. Maybe stored in Rough Storage offshore through Centrica Storage but we still
Produce gas domestically from North Sea, we also have substantial LNG stocks plus three months plus en route in tankers under contract. Then it’s summer…

  29. Rubbish clickbait journalism, I would expect the G to be better than this honestly
