    Slovenia State Aid for Industry Carbon Costs Approved by EU Commission – News and Statistics

    The European Commission has approved a state aid scheme for Slovenia, as reported by SeeNews. The measure allocates funding to compensate certain industrial sectors for elevated electricity expenses linked to carbon pricing mechanisms.

    This support targets companies operating in specific energy-intensive fields that face global competition, including ferrous metallurgy, aluminum and other metal production, paper manufacturing, and chemical industries. Compensation is limited to a portion of indirect emission costs incurred during a defined three-year period starting in 2025.

    Disbursements to companies are scheduled for 2027, with a concluding payment following in 2028 for costs from the prior year. The aid calculation incorporates electricity consumption efficiency benchmarks, designed to incentivize more efficient production methods.

    Eligibility for compensation requires firms to demonstrate that a minimum share of their electricity originates from carbon-free sources. Recipients must also commit to using the funds for investments in climate protection measures within a specified timeframe after the final payment.

    In a related decision from the same period, the Commission also approved a separate state aid scheme for France. That initiative, structured as a tax credit, aims to support strategic investments that increase clean technology manufacturing capacity.

    The French program encourages investments in additional zero-emission production capabilities, including technologies like solar power, onshore and offshore wind, heat pumps, and storage systems. It covers expenses associated with key components and critical raw materials for these technologies.
