A Bulgarian stand opened Monday at the London Book Fair. In a congratulatory address, President Iliana Iotova praised the stand as a space for dialogue, discoveries and fairytale stories. She wrote that in a letter to Svetla Dionisieva, Director of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London, and it posted it on its Facebook page.
According to Iotova, at a time of division and conflicts, the book proves its power as a natural bridge between people and cultures. She noted that Bulgarian authors, translators and publishers are the most successful ambassadors of the country’s literary tradition.
The President congratulated the entire team of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London “for the ambition, energy and love with which they encourage people to seek out and appreciate what is Bulgarian”.
Caretaker Culture Minister Nayden Todorov also congratulated the institute and the Bulgarian stand in a letter to Dionisieva. He noted that Bulgaria’s presence with an independent stand at one of the leading international publishing forums has become an established and strategically important policy for promoting Bulgarian literature.
“I am pleased that through such initiatives Bulgarian authors gain visibility and an opportunity for meaningful dialogue with the international professional community,” Todorov wrote.
Bulgaria is opening its stand at the London Book Fair with special editions by the Bulgarian News Agency and books dedicated to Bulgarian Antarctic explorers.
